I apologize, Rebel. Let me restate it in the following way:

"One weekend, your 16-year-old son's female teacher has sex with him, while your 16-year-old daughter's male teacher has sex with her."

Now, my contention is they are both statutory rapes, and both should be handled equally harsh. Both should see jail time, and both should have to register as sex offenders. Why? Because the teachers are in a position of trust and influence over my children, and they abused their influence to my children. But this opinion is open for subsequent debate.

Look, I've said earlier in a disclaimer that my family friend (wife's school mate) is a sex offender registration officer in Ventura County. In fact, she works with victims of sex abuse, including those whom you wouldn't classify as real "abuse" victims. These are the teen victims of adult offenders. Incidentally, I also hold the same views for homosexual encounters; the actual sex act is not the point; the statutory difference between adult and teen IS the point.

Finally, I also have NO qualms for adult sexual behaviors (other than teachers with their over-18 high school students). Any sex between consenting adults, including groups, is fair, and in fact, I approve whole-heartedly, because adults can handle consequences more readily than teens.

I agree there is the Position of authority that can muddy the waters so to speak. I just don't think consensual non coerced sex with a 16 yr old or older warrants prison time , Statutory law non withstanding.

Put real criminals in jail, sentence the stupid people to community service commiserate with their "crime".

I'd beat the hell out of the male teacher and, depending on the female teachers looks, probably hi-5 him. Hypocrisy? I'm comfortable in my hypocrisy. Men are different than women.

BTW, by no means do I not think she should be fired. She should have been canned the moment the incident was proven. I just don't think it should be criminal. A 26 year old having sex with a 10 year old boy? Definitely criminal. In many states, 16 is the age of consent for sex.

My sister married a teacher from our school, who happened to be our next door neighbor and a good family friend. They were married about a month after she turned 18. That was 1974 and their marriage lasted until he passed away last year.

Fair enough Rebel. And for the record, in California age of consent is 18.

I won't bother any more with the discussion. In fact, most of the country agrees with the hypocrisy; that being women teachers being held to far less criminal standards than male teachers for that very reason.

I'd be interested in hearing some female points of view on this subject.

Don't girls mature emotionally/mentally more quickly than guys?  At least that is what they always tell us.  So should the women who take advantage of young boys face stiffer penalties?
