The status of women in the cities was definitely better.Women could walk down the streets of Kabul unveiled, and filled the universities, and had important positions of leadership in government. Definitely better. But it was an occupation. And it was no more justified for the Soviets to be there than the US now.

That's what the men there have chosen for themselves. Not *everything* horrible in the world is the fault of the US.

Afghanistan was a bastion of modernity in 1979, when this cycle of subjugation from abroad began.

Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Things for women in the "Good War" zone have really gone down hill since a muslim sympathizer has been president. Things will be getting much worse for the women in all the countries that 0bama helped in the arab spring. Not that anybody didn't see that coming.
