Profiling
« on: March 28, 2012, 08:25:42 PM »
Read the words of one of my personal hero's (Walter Williams) and his take on Blacks and profiling.

Quote
Right now, there isn't enough known about the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, a black, by George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old part-Hispanic, during his neighborhood watch tour in an Orlando, Fla., suburb. If evidence emerges that Zimmerman's actions were not justified, he should be prosecuted and punished; however, there's a larger issue that few people understand or have the courage to acknowledge, namely that black and young has become synonymous with crime and, hence, suspicion. To make that connection does not make one a racist. Let's look at it.

Twelve years ago, a black Washington, D.C., commissioner warned cabbies, most of whom were black, against picking up dangerous-looking passengers. She described "dangerous-looking" as a "young black guy ... with shirttail hanging down longer than his coat, baggy pants, unlaced tennis shoes." She also warned cabbies to stay away from low-income black neighborhoods. Did that make the D.C. commissioner a racist?

There is more at the link and it is well worth the 4 or 5 minutes to read the rest.

Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell are two of my favorite .. Uncle Toms! :yahoo:

20 years or so ago, the NAACP was down on the black Charleston S.C. police chief. They were doing their best to get him fired. 60 minutes even did a piece on him about him being so hard on the blacks criminal element....it was funny, he got the best of 60 minutes. I was surprised they even showed it.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Years back Thomas Sowell did a piece comparing the Black community at the time of slavery to just prior to the 1964 civil rights act then to present day. It was an eye opener interesting piece.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

"Uncle Toms"?????

I'm guessing he is mocking the lefties by saying that.
We do that a lot here where we sarcastically use the terms the left likes to use.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

So, you never need a tan and still need a camo stick before going on missions. :-) J/K my best friend in the world, my former Asst. Section Sergeant, has a black father and white mother. He's a conservative and more to the right than I am. If there's ever another pic thread, I'll post the pic.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

Air Assault, 10 days. Airborne, 3 weeks. What I've been told by double stackers is, mentally, Air Assault is harder. Takes that math stuff.

Props to my fellow 101 vets, I was with 3rd BDE (War Eagles) shortly after all its BNs were reflagged to 187th Infantry lineage.

Rakkasan!

...I see Zimmerman was promoted from 'White Hispanic' to 'Part Hispanic' in that story...

I've driven by their headquarters on Campbell. Didn't know what the hell that meant until I pulled it up on Wiki. IIRC, some kind of Japanese flying thing?

It's a reference to the umbrella-like appearance of the 'chutes, from the 187th RCT's airborne days, Wiki has a good exlplanation of it, really.  Pretty colorful history, including island assaults in the Pacific and combat jumps in Korea (The era from which the moniker dates).
