These are the same TheoCons that want to invoke God into everything, yet don't heed 'Gods will' or calling. That heart could have went to a 30 yr old with kids and a long life ahead of them. WHY WHY WHY?! Don't get me wrong, I wish EVERYONE could receive a new heart that needed one, but since it isn't possible why are we wasting a perfectly good one on someone that probably won't even live another 5-10 years?! Btw, isn't it a bit 'collectivist' to be granted a new heart and hypocritical on Cheney's part?

Why should his miserable life be more important than others, who in my mind are very deserving of a heart transplant.

I don't really think age is a factor, but given consideration depending on the recipients general health In Cheney's case that didn't matter, he would have gotten the transplant regardless.

Cheney's had five heart attacks, the first one in his 30's. For the last 20 months he's been living with an artificial pump in his chest while he's waited on the recipient list. He hasn't "leapfrogged" over anyone, dumbass.

My grandmother is 72 and recently had surgery to remove thyroid cancer, and we recently learned that it has metastasized to the lungs, despite the fact that she has been seeing a doctor regarding her cancer on a regular basis for the past 8 years.  She had a surgeon that discouraged her from surgery for two years, despite her oncologist encouraging surgery, and her surgeon actually had the gall to ask her "Well, how much longer do you want to live?"  She had to change hospitals completely to find a surgeon who supported the surgical option, and they did a fantastic job.  Unfortunately, the cancer had already spread by that time.  She'll be having radiation therapy next month. 

Just because a person is older, that doesn't mean that they should be denied medical care if they have a reasonable chance of an extended, high quality life.

He did what was required and the man waited nearly 2 years for his time to come. I don't see a problem here. As I recall too, don't they try to base matches also on the relative age of the person who passed who is donated the heart? IE I thought in most instances you would not want to put the heart of a 45 year old man in a 10 year old child or that of a 15 year old child into that of a 70 year old man. I thought I remember reading that there were issues with maturity of the heart that had to be considered. So shoudl we just toss all those over 50 hearts in the casket with the donor because we don't want to look like we are favoring the 60 or 70 year old who could use it and actually qualifies for a match and waited their turn to receive it?
