Republican Logic...

Last edited Wed Mar 21, 2012, 05:19 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

Mitt Romney's comments that Bush saved us from a depression is right out of the Republican playbook.

I've heard it for years from Republicans I've associated with.

Hoover stopped the Great Depression - Roosevelt prolonged it (figure that one out).

Carter was responsible for recession seen in the 80s, Reagan was responsible for the economic boom of the 90s.

Clinton was responsible for the recession we just got out of.

Now, with the economy turning around, we're going to hear Republicans give credit to Bush. It was all Bush. Obama, like Clinton, will just take credit for the recovery.

This will be their line of attack. It was their line of attack in '96. It didn't work then and I'm hopeful it won't work now.

Actually DUmmy, only people like you believe the propaganda that the economy is turning around, meanwhile those of us in the real world see health insurance premiums going up, gas prices necessarily skyrocketing, the price of food going up, and jobs still being scarce. Just because the democrats keep telling us how everything is better, it does not make it so.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Maybe that should be our slogan for the upcoming elections...repeated over and over again day after day.

If we take the democrats mime of repeating a lie often enough that it becomes the truth (or assumed truth).

We can repeat the truth often enough that people actually open their eyes and ears to it, and know it for the truth.

The MSM should absolutely be ashamed of themselves! In my lifetime, this is the worst I have ever seen! I thought it was bad when Clintoon was lookin' into the camera and lyin' his ass off and the media let him get away with it! this is 10 times worse!

Journalism used to be an unbiased form of information. It is nothin' more than the propaganda arm of the DemonRat party nowadays!

They oughta be ashamed! They're nothin' more than political trash now! Disgusting!

When I run into someone touting to be a journalist lately, I just say "I'm sorry, don't ya think ya oughta get a real job?".
I'm the guy your mother warned you about!

Dear OP DUmmie,

I've yet to find anyone, Republican or otherwise, who claims Hoover stopped the Great Depression.  It started under him, and he made some absolutely ****ing boneheaded decisions like passing Hawley/Smoot Act, etc.

But yes, a lot of what Roosevelt did in fact prolonged the Depression about 5 years longer than it would have been otherwise.

Just like many of Obama's plans have extended the current economic crisis.

DUchebag Logic, 0bama is ejaculated in late January 2009. His stimulus bill is passed in late March 2009. The end of the recession is called in June 2009. That's pretty magical of Presidebt 0bama. But Bush had supposedly created  the recession (by a new measure)  late 2007. Yes, the policies of GWB had far more to do with saving the economy. 0bama has made the recovery the WORST in our history except for the depression where FDR used the same policies to extend the depression.

As much as it sounds like parody, I saw a Dem Congresscritter say exactly that in an interview on television two weeks ago.

It needs pointed out--and it's all in the history books--that both England and France crashed with the United States in 1929, and had their own depressions.

However, by 1933, England and France were out of it, and prospering.

The only "recovery" programs either used was adding sixpence or ten centimes to the dole, and that was it.

They didn't start up deficit-creating "public jobs" or expand welfare beyond just the little tiny minuscule bit cited above, they didn't try to have the government run anything.  They basically just left their economies alone to heal back into prosperity by itself.

I believe it was under Roosevelt that the birth of entitlements came about.  :(
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

I'd heard that FDR simply adopted most of Hoover's policies and renamed them. Some guy hawking a book two years ago or so.

Also by most accounts if it hadn't been for WWII and the industry involved the depression would have been prolonged even more.

Maybe Woodrow Wilson. BTW, a party affiliation is just a party. An ideology is gut-driven. Progs exist everywhere.

It really does no good to explain this to a DUmmie. They simply don't have the capacity to understand. It would be easier to explain it to my chickens.
