On March 16th, President Obama signed a new Executive Order which expands upon a prior order issued in 1950 for Disaster Preparedness, and gives the office of the President complete control over all the resources in the United States in times of war or emergency.

The National Defense Resources Preparedness order gives the Executive Branch the power to control and allocate energy, production, transportation, food, and even water resources by decree under the auspices of national defense and national security. The order is not limited to wartime implementation, as one of the order's functions includes the command and control of resources in peacetime determinations.

9. Nationalizing oil is good. We've been going to war for oil, meaning all aspects of energy..

Should be debated within the public arena and not be determined in corporate boardrooms. If it's worth spending lives over, it should be under democratic process and we as a nation can make better choices about our energy future.

The energy giants have also been threatening Obama with 'consequences' if he doesn't allow Keystone or deregulate them more than they've gotten away with. They might want to get their dirty paws out of our elections, now.

I wonder if this idiot realizes that most of the large oil companies in the U.S. are not U.S. companies, i.e. Shell-Dutch, BP-British.

Just wait until he needs them to work at some algae farm for nothing. That means WITHOUT PAY. I bet they haven't read this. It's not just resources, it's everything, including humans and whatever HE deems to an emergency. If they think he's not going to make them do his bidding they're nuts. He doesn't care about them. I'm sure in their tiny little brains they think he's just gonna take over oil companies & corporation but it actually gives him the right to be come the next Kim Jong Il, 13th Amendment be damned. They might consider what it's like in China...no one is allowed to sit on their ass and whine. Even old people have to get out and sweep the streets. Oh, and he can ration drugs too. I don't see how he can get away with this, but then he's gotten away with more than I thought possible and no one seems to be able to stop him. Wait for there to be a national emergency on Nov. 1.

Legal minds that I trust and admire, like Professor Jacobson at LegalInsurrection are essentially saying not to panic over this, that it is just reauthorizing previous EO's.  But that is about as reassuring as knowing that while I go on vacation, my ex-husband will be housesitting.
