Surely he will be sharing this article with his actual flesh and blood constituents at the union bar, where high end wings and beer will be served. There is afterall a Walmart in Bellevue. Steve will announce his hatred of this business in the "literature" the DU paid for. I am sure of it.

The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Union is strongly against Walmart Neighborhood Markets coming to Northern California, the union said in a press release Wednesday.

Walmart is looking to bring its grocery store chain to Bay Area cities, including Pleasanton and San Ramon. There are currently 167 Walmart Neighborhood Markets nationwide, selling everything one would find in a regular grocery store, according to the Walmart website.

What concerns the union is, unlike Safeway and Lucky's, workers at Walmart Neighborhood Markets aren't unionized.

"Walmart's new move into the traditional grocery store sector is a departure in tactics on their part and a direct threat to our members in the grocery industry," said Ron Lind, President of UFCW Local 5. "Thousands of good jobs and the livelihood of tens of thousands of our members are jeopardized by Walmart's plans. We intend on fighting this threat with every ounce of our strength."

It looks like this "Made in China because unions won't do it". Kindda ryhmes with "They're up here doing jobs Americans won't do".

I think this was not a good move.

Self confessed Socialist, Steve Dawes clearly hates the middle class and the poor. Walmart is dearly loved by the middle class and the poor.

Well, according to the Chamber of Commerce, WalMart is the sixth largest employer in Bellevue, with a little over 500 employees.

Omaha Steve hates Walmart workers.....the good people of Bellevue who are employed by Walmart are nothing of the sort. They aren't the "cream of the crop." Oh dear. Who knew?!!!

Except managers. They don't hire cream of the crop. They have broken child labor laws. They have discriminated against women. They have several charges going through the courts. When I hurt my back, I couldn't find work as a trucker anymore because I couldn't load or unload. How well could Paul cut meat? Isn't that why they made him a lowly greeter? Try watching the PBS Is Wal-mart Good for America special. It runs every so often.

I saw the guy wearing a billboard on the way home. Sears in Bellevue is closing after more than 30 years. They couldn't compete with the NEW Walmart down the street. It took 4 years. What a shame. Walmart chased Albersons out in 2004. Those were union jobs with health and retirement benefits. I'll have to drive out of my way to not shop at Walmart, but Marta and I don't care. We don't do Walmart or Sam's.

To me it sure is greedy to have a very few lucky (1%ers) that get the overpaid union jobs at the expense of all the poor people (99%ers) that can get lower prices by having Walmart come in and make the other stores compete.

One must wonder how many of those 500+ employees of the Bellevue WalMart, and how many of their family members, vote in Ward 1.

I would expexct they'd be upset to know that Socialist Steve Dawes, a deadbeat who's never given an honest day's work, calls them retards in a public forum.

In order for the simpleminded deadbeat to be a top contender, though, he'll need to take his nutty council campaign to the November election.

Does the election coming up May 15 reduce candidates to the top two for the November election?

Or is Socialist Steve assured of going to November, since the democrat party didn't care enough to recruit a viable candidate?

Or does the top finisher on May 15 win the seat?

Since council is nominally non partisan, I would expect his customary third- or fourth-place finish to end Socialist Steve's political career, regardless.
