As franksolich has pointed out, it's not a good idea for Steve Dawes, candidate for city office in Bellevue, NE, to be bragging about out-of-state donations. The good voters of Bellevue's First Ward will not be happy to hear that the corpulent carpetbagger is whoring himself on DU because he has no local support.
That, but there's something else too.
Nebraska's strict on campaign-financing laws; in fact it's rare that a candidate doesn't at least get his hand lightly slapped for one infraction or another.
No major scandals or anything since such laws were passed, but there's a great deal of diligence and peanut-counting among the bureaucrats charged with checking out campaign finance reports.
If the big guy persists in inflating how much money he's raised to the primitives, and his campaign treasurer reports a different total to the bureaucrats, there might arise some serious questions, from both the primitives and the bureaucrats.
Again, for about the 19th time, I seriously counsel my fellow Nebraskan to leave the finance reporting up to his treasurer, himself being mum about the subject.
