Today I learned that my GI doc is a Christian.

He started talking about how God created us to know the difference between solids and gases, but not gases and liquids. This is a nice way to describe a bodily function.

At that moment, I suddenly no longer trust my doc. I just don't think Scientists can be Christians. They need to question too much and if they can't, they can't be a scientist.

Am I the only one who feels this way? And how unprofessional is it to go into religion in a professional setting? Just totally made me uncomfortable. If this were at the Catholic Hospital, it would have been expected. But not where I was. It was just...unseemly...

1. My dentist has inspirational posters on his ceiling for patients to look at while he's digging around in his mouth. I put up with them because he's the only dentist who has never hurt me. And it's the only proselytizing he does and it's all pretty mild stuff.

I honestly don't care whether or not a medical professional is a believer. Some are, some are not and the "are nots" are a distinct minority.

Just as the RCC has accepted evolution but considers god the puppetmaster who is directing the whole business, other medical professionals and scientists are capable of exploring their fields scientifically more as an exploration of god's methods rather than shutting down all avenues of research by saying "god did it" and that further study is unnecessary.

Besides, your GI doc was just using a classy way to say "never trust a fart."

2. Both of my ob-gyns have been overtly Christian -

The births were vastly different (and in different hospitals - we had moved) - but both doctors were very caring and got this older mom through the process including amnios in both cases (I was in my late 30s). I appreciated their professionalism in both cases.

I have been to my fair share of doctors in my life and I have NEVER, I repeat NEVER had one bring up their religious beliefs with me. The DUmmies seem to have the problem every time they go to the doctor. The personal physician I have now I have known for over 15 years, I have his personal cell phone number in case I have a problem. We are pretty close. The point is we have talked about a great many things but we have never discussed each others religious beliefs.

To lurking DUmmies, the OP is lying their ass off just to gain some street cred....pure bullshit... :bs:

And the bolded shows just another reason why DUmmies are called DUmmies.

For the Duckie DUmmie, if you think Christians can't question things you show just how ignorant you really are about Christianity.

edit to add: As for as a scientist needing to question things let a scientist question evolution and see where it gets him or her.

This ought to make their little pointed heads explode.

Mendel, a Roman Catholic monk in Hungary, figured out genetics.

Albert Einstein was not an atheist, as apparently was demonstrated on the 100th anniversary of his famous law of relativity.

Need one mention the medieval Roger Bacon?

I dunno where the primitives get this stupid idea that religion and science are exclusive of each other.

Isaac Newton was an Anglican churchman.

Charles Darwin believed in God.

I suppose if I spent some time thinking about it, I can find more examples.

Well, you know if there's a stupid idea around that a primitive will be near. They may not have originated stupid, but they sure have made some serious advances toward perfecting it.

Your own line of work is of course very scientific.

Does your religion make you not so?

It's just so stupid I'm suspecting the primitive who lit this campfire's a mole.

Apparently their very small intellects do not understand that questioning and faith can survive together. As a matter of fact, when faith grows stronger it is often the result of questioning.

My OB doctor is a Christian (the one I had with my last child) and the only way I knew it was he took me in his office the first time I met with him to discuss my pregnancy (I was high risk because of my auto immune disease and the fact I got pregnant while taking methotrexate). He had a cross stich picture hanging on his wall with a quote from the bible. He saw me looking at it and he told me his wife made it for him. Then I looked on his desk, sitting on it was his briefcase which was open, there was a bible that looked like it was well loved sitting in the briefcase.  I smiled at the thought and felt in great hands.

My doctor who did my cataract surgery a month ago is a Christian. I won't go into how I know but it was comforting and I knew I was in great hands.

My retina doctor in CA was a liberal, he had mother jones magazines in his waiting room.  I still thought I was in good hands.

Athiest and religious people have to take the same tests to pass medical school.  The OP is an idiot.

I really cannot figure out where hard core socialists get their fear of Christians.
The really confusing thing is how hardcore, lifelong, totally committed Socialist Steve Dawes of Bellevue Nebraska can claim in campaign material to be a Christian, yet he's a mainstay in a community that expresses absolute hatred and contempt for Christianity and Christians.

I wonder if even one of his over thirty thousand posts at the DUmp mention this sudden devotion to his church.

Everyone knows the answer to that.

Socialist Steve Dawes is the political equivalent to those tiresome death row converts.

It's baffling how any democrat can claim Christianity, doubly so for a socialist.

Quite simple, Sir.
Socialist Steve Dawes, wishes to hide his true political agenda.
Socialists such as Steve Dawes go to no end to hide their socialist background.
This is a common practice of socialists such as Steve Dawes.
For the socialistic Steve Dawes to attempt to hide his true political leanings, is no surprise.

I think we should round up all believers, especially those in positions of responsibility, and move them into "retraining" camps.

How's that for an idea, DU?
Let nothing trouble you,
Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.

Steve Dawes, the socialist candidate for election in Bellevue, Nebraska, sounds like a 'cultural christian' (lower-case 'c' deliberate)...happy to go along with a very bland version of the cultural milieu of Christianity without any of the fundamental teachings or more difficult applications of it.

Plus it makes for good reading for the good voters of Bellevue, Nebraska, when they look at Steve Dawes' campaign literature which may not give full details of his deep and long-lasting commitment to socialism.

A casual reference to God does NOT make a person a Christian.   ::) ::)  However, it takes a DUmmy to worry that a real Christian might not do as well as someone who, by necessity, must believe that the best way to conduct his business is to allow the fittest to survive, and the weakest to die.  How else can an atheist doctor support evolution?   :rotf:

Do the DUmmies believe that Muslims should or should not be doctors?

Muslims believe the Koran and hadith are Words of God, and therefore infallible.  These books teach them everything they need to know about anatomy and science.  Here is how a baby is made:

When the dad sticks his thing in and blows, the semen comes from the small of his back.  Right in that area there.  From there it goes in, and behaves just like a plant seed.  Using the womb for its earth, it grows, beginning by developing a tail.  Progresses from there to become a fullterm baby.  Sperm to baby, all dad's doing.
