When did teacher bashing become the new national pastime?

With spring training under way, fantasy baseball owners across the country are hard at work readying their draft boards and preparing to select their championship rosters. As they do, I have a modest proposal to make that will simplify the whole process: Let’s stop getting weighed down by multiple data points, and start looking at just one number instead – the number of doubles a player hit the previous season.

Too simplistic a way to evaluate something as complex as a player’s overall value to your team? Hogwash. For example, look at last year’s stats and you’ll see that the Kansas City Royals’ Jeff Francoeur smacked almost 50 two-baggers. By contrast, some guy named Albert Pujols hit half as many. By my calculations, then, Francoeur must be twice as good.

Sounds simple enough – unless you know anything about baseball, and which of those two guys is the sure Hall of Famer who just signed a $254 million dollar contract (hint: it isn’t Francoeur). In fact, the only thing effective about drafting a fantasy baseball team this way is that it would effectively eliminate you from competition before the season starts. Yet this sort of magical thinking is exactly what’s happening in New York City right now, thanks to the city’s recent release of its own fantasy rankings based on how the students of 18,000 schoolteachers did on standardized reading and math exams.

Since the rankings were released on February 24, the New York Post has run personal profiles of the city’s “best” and “worst” teachers. The New York Times has run headlines suggesting the rankings are an accurate reflection of overall “teacher quality.” And the New York mayor has brushed off criticism by reminding us all that “no evaluation system is ever going to be perfect.”

Nah.

I figure about five years earlier than that, when the Die alte Sau graduated from college and went into teaching.

Since the teachers started indoctrinating the communist/fascist/socialist ideology instead of teaching the children English, math, and history.
Since the inflation adjusted funding for schools has gone up 30 fold and the test scores have remained flat even with all the new technology.
Since teachers started calling themselves "educators."

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

When did teacher bashing become the new national pastime?

When teachers decided they were going to use unions to extort massive pay and benefit increases from everyone else.

In general I think the Right takes the teacher-bashing too far, however I'd say in P2B's case it's entirely deserved.

Hey proud2BlibKansan , dumb scrunt, workers are judged on the overall quality of their work or their products.  Teachers have students as their "product".  When a teacher consistently produces low quality students that can't read and write, maybe the teacher is a failure.

Maybe it's "not far enough" when concerning P2B? :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

I think there's Teacher bashing because the schools get over $12,000 per student at the High School level, and all that money either turns out stupid kids, or kids drop out before they're due to graduate. Peoples property taxes in some cases are sky high to pay for their benefits.

Straw men...right?

Got that? Try to improve the results/performance of public schools and we are attacking straw men.

I thought these folks value education?!?

As it turns out, not so much.

It's funny.  I know a teacher that works in the same school as the moonbat.  Somehow, there is a difference of opinion on professional capability.
You see, I don't care you how feel.  I really don't.  More importantly, neither does anyone else.  Only about 200 people on a planet of 7 billion actually care about your feelings, and that's if you're lucky.  The sooner you grasp this lesson, the better off you will be.  And since almost no one gives a damn what you do, say, think, or feel, appealing to your feelings when you encounter differences of opinion is not only illogical, but useless.

Maybe in a blue state run by DUmmies it costs $12,000 to turn out DUmb kids but here in red state hell, we do it for less than $5,000 per student.

Hey, how much education does it take to get welfare, foodstamps, buy lottery tickets and drugs.

My husband is a community college teacher.  When he passes a kid through his classes, it's because that kid has proven to have learned the information presented.   If he can't get the student to do the work, or to pass the tests, the student fails the class.  It's just too bad "proud" isn't smart enough to follow the same system...lousy students fail, and repeat next year.  When they've proven to be lousy at making the kid take responsibility, then the teacher will have to take responsibility for their failure at teaching kids reality.
