I'm pretty proud of my kid
« on: March 06, 2012, 08:47:56 PM »
He has been playing guitar for just over a year.

It isn't perfect but I think it isn't too bad for a 10 year-old.

He is getting the hang of it just fine.. and the best way to learn is listening to others play and play along, it gives you a ear for the music.

I've been playing guitar for over 40 years and would enjoy jaming with him!

That was just too cute. He's got his little guitar mouth going, he's intense but comfortable.

And he plays well.  I'd go see him.   :-)

You have something (someone) there to be authentically proud of.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Thank you!  That is what he needs - someone to jam with.  I feel bad because we live in a VERY small "football" town.  He doesn't really have anyone around here that he can chill and play with, right now anyway.  His teacher is amazing!  Classically trained and has a real way with him.

Oh thank you!  He is really loving it and it has been a great release for him.  I'm surprised at how quick he is able to pick some things up.  His teacher is having fun with him because he has a quick ear.

Thank you!  I honestly love to hear him play.  I don't know how long that will last though.... :-)

With a little improvement he could offer lessons to his friends with no guitar experience, for a fee. Compensation would tend to hold his interest a bit longer.

With only a year's lessons, he's good. I'd be proud too.

I played guitar for almost 30 years, and loved it!!  Unfortunately, a stroke 7 years ago left me with a right-side deficit, thus ending my real playing days.

I played acoustic, both 6- and 12-string, both Martins. When I could no longer play, I gave them to my best friend's then-11-yr-old daughter. She already played a mean piano, and took to guitar like a fish to water.

She was homeschooled, and got the equivalent of a HS diploma at 14. By that time, she was an accomplished piano player and guitarist, plus picked up the banjo.

She is now 19, college graduate (BSEE) and married to her childhood sweetheart. She still plays for her "Uncle" Mike, who thoroughly enjoys seeing his musical instruments put to good use.

BTW, she is also taking violin lessons!!!  That girl has talent!!
