I don't think Nerf guns have been scrutinized to the same degree 30.06 and 5.56mm ammunition has.

My math professor had a similar project with some of his other students about sawing down a tree in his yard and predicting where the top of the tree would land (he did eventually cut the tree down). At least in my experience, it doesn't take much to qualify as a "good" science project, but neither of my parents took calculus or physics. Yay, me. If you can take a basic scientific principle, make a short academic outline, and produce a real-world example, you're going to get an A.
