Help, this is just not right but perhaps I do not understand the tax laws.
Hubby went to H&R Block to have our taxes done. This is the first time in 40 years I have not worked or brought in one penny to the home. Years past we both made more money and were happy to get a less then $2,000 refund.
So Hubby comes home to tell me I have to go to H&R to sign papers, for our refund. Never had to do that before, he just took in my ID and brought the papers home for me to sign.
My problem is the return is 5 times the amount we received when I was working. I have yet to apply for SS so my income is zero. Actually both incomes added up to what what Hubby makes today by himself.
WTF, I receive no income today, lived on Hubby's salary and now find all those years of hard labor find we would have been better off if I had not worked???
The amount of our return is crazy, only deductions is for him and myself, home is almost paid off, no morgerage deductions ------What is going on ????
What to do here, are we being scammed, this just does not seem possible and free money is a subject to be afraid of, suspicious of and never to be trusted.
Had the return been 1/4 the money no questions but the amount is way too high to trust.
So tomorrow I have to march my ass into H&R block and sign all kinds of papers that exonerate the filers from problems BUT if they do not do their job I have to pay the penalty and taxes owed that they said I did not have to pay.
Nice thing to worry about, the tax laws are 6 feet tall in paper, we normal people and thousands of tax Lawyers get our ass in a sling.
Hubby thinks I am Nuts, why worry, but I know the problems of us that little knowing get caught with our balls in a sling.
What to do, hope for the best and believe the H&R prepare knows their stuff , not else I can do but pray these people know more then the CPA's and have their and MY shit all in one sock.
Then again is this all about Obama getting re elected gains in the 401K and a huge tax return, makes me scared and wonder just what is going on.
Paranoid, you betchar, money just does not fall from the sky for no reason.
