OUCH!
OK, I have to get this off my chest or else I'll scream.
We were practicing IVs. We use each other. I was working with another soldier but she was only a couple of yards away.
She got a good stick. Hit the vein just right, which is 90% of the difficulty. You think that was awesom.
Well, she forgot to release the constricting band used to puff-up your veins prior to withdrawing the needle from the catheter. When that happens there is no small amount of blood running out of the patient. Heart is forcing blood down but constricting band keeps veins from returning and since the door is open it runs outside.
No big deal. Happens all the time, I've done it myself. You either just go ahead and connect the IV line (or saline lock) or pop the band while holding the vein north of the inserted cather and then attach the line.
Well, she couldn't find her saline lock. It was undere the wrapper for the needle/catheter set.
She got flustered.
She stormed off crying.
with the blood still running out of her training partner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another NCO jumped in and completed the connection.
I should have killed her when I had the chance.
I'm sorry, I've failed you all.
