My sad tale, and why abortion issue is not about deciding
Last edited Wed Feb 22, 2012, 03:21 PM USA/ET - Edit history (2)

anything. Nor is it about morality.

The abortion issue is instead about a woman's right to survive should she become pregnant. Once the anti-abortion crowd gets its way, no woman is safe at all, if she is of child-bearing age.

She is not even safe from her body's own biological processes.

Take that from me. Back in the early 1970's in Illinois, as a very naive, somewhat pro-Life 20 year old, I became pregnant. I found out I was pregnant on Feb 15th of that year. Before my husband and I could "decide" anything, my body rejected the pregnancy. I started bleeding while I was walking home from work. At that point, I had known I was pregnant for all of six hours.

The local hospital refused to admit me as a patient, when I arrived by ambulance at 2Am. Even though I was hemorrhaging.

The ER doctors examining me seemed more interested in interrogating my husband about what I "had done" prior to the start of my bleeding, than in handling my situation.

So they sent me home. Later on, I found out that the hospital might have lost its license if they admitted a pregnant woman who has self-aborted.

I would have died, if not for the strange fact that my mother called our house at 6Am that day. (She calls me evenings or afternoons, not Am's.) When she found out from Jim what was happening, she showed up at my house, and got me to the hospital where my long time pediatrician practiced. Within 45 minutes of my arrival, I was undergoing a D & C.

If that had not happened, I would not currently be occupying my office chair, but pushing up daisies in a cemetery somewhere in Illinois.

First, medically necessary abortions have never been illegal anywhere in the United States.  Second, if you were hemmorhaging, they would have had you rushed to the operating table.  Third, you do not receive  a D & C if you were so short in to pregnancy that you had only learned six hours previously, the fetus would have been too small.   All of this shows that you lie.

Now on to the idiots in your cheering section.

that it is better to despise intellect than to grow one.

I would like to believe that anecdotes like this would get them to realize that the issue is far more complicated than their black and white world-view will allow, but alas, that would be far too much work. The only ones who learn are the ones close to a story like yours.

In the meanwhile, might I recommend that you do not make the terms of their victory 'your dead body', because they are uncivilized and very likely to take you up on that. I think that I, and I hope you as well, would rather that the 'dead bodies' be theirs.

Given that they would see women die even where the fetus was not viable, I have no moral compunction here.

No, the 'dead bodies' you want are the chopped up remains of babies that had no chance at life thanks to your idea that a baby is only inconvenience.

3. Death

I actually believe that a lot of them think that death in such a situation would be an appropriate outcome for a woman, "God's will".

They assign beliefs by assertion.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

What a pant load!
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Standard treatment for bleeding during early pregnancy is to go home and go to bed in the hope that bedrest will stop the miscarriage.

If you are actually hemorrhaging, you won't last 4 hours.  You may not last 4 minutes...  When I had a miscarriage and did start to hemorrhage, I lost a couple pints of blood in the 5 minute trip to the hospital.  It was not a hospital that did any type of abortion, but they immediately treated me to stop the chance I'd bleed to death.  Just as ANY hospital would have done at any time, before or after Roe v Wade.   ::) ::)

I have so little patience with the lies these people dream up.   :censored:

8. My next door neighbor when I was a kid wasn't so lucky

She bled to death on the table in the emergency room. Whenever I feel sorry for myself about my miscarriages, I remind myself that at least they all happened after Roe v Wade.

You have my sympathy on any miscarriages.  However, Roe v Wade had nothing at all to do with your neighbor's death.  She would have died just as easy after as before.  You have blinders on.

11. It is about exactly what you say, but it's also about deciding

Prior to Roe vs Wade, the government got to decide when a woman could and could not have an abortion in all instances. The reason why Roe vs Wade was successful is because women have a right to privacy and a right to decide for themselves if they are to have an abortion.

No, the government in most states merely declined to allow the business transaction (which has what to do with a right to privacy, exactly?) which included the medical abortion for non-medical reasons.  You're "right to privacy" doesn't exist in the constitution for a very good reason.  A murderer could claim a right to privacy if it existed by stating that it happened in the provacy of his house.

The way they think, it's as though prior to Roe v Wade, every pregnant woman had to escape the evil abortioners in order to survive.  We must have had women dropping like flies when pregnant.  Just bleeding to death everywhere, with no medical help!!  Thankfully, Roe v Wade came along to SAVE THEIR LIVES by allowing "sainted" abortionists to remove those horrible parasites before ALL the Womyn DIED!!!!!   :o :o :o

I know I'd be happier!

What a bunch of bull shit these people will puke in order to try and be relevant and put words in our mouths. There is absolutely no way in hell an ER would turn a woman away if hemorrhaging, even if she had tried to self abort!

Chances are they might call the cops, but it would be after they examined her and there was some sort of evidence she had tried to abort her child on her own! I'm sure it couldn't be very hard to figure out!

What a lyin' puke!

I've often been confused by this too.

Same with teh gheys - first it's "we don't want government in our relationships", now it's "we DEMAND government recognition of our 'marriage' ".

It's rapidly turning into the same with religion - starts as "no interaction between government and religion" and now (starting with Catholicism, but certainly won't end there) "the government can tell your religion what to believe and do".
