Quote
"I am going to lower rates across the board for all Americans by 20%. And in order to limit any impact on the deficit, because I do not want to add to the deficit, and also in order to make sure we continue to have progressivity as we've had in the past in our code, I'm going to limit the deductions and exemptions particularly for high income folks. And by the way, I want to make sure you understand that, for middle income families, the deductibility of home mortgage interest and charitable contributions will continue. But for high income folks, we are going to cut back on that, so we make sure the top 1% pay their fair share or more."

"...continue the progressivity.... make the 1% pay their fare share...."

Inside every RINO there is a flaming lib Hiding behind the "R."
This should doom him. I hope the other  candidates beat him with this in the upcoming debate.

I hear that his staff is already "walking back" this statement.......

That said, this just reinforces the idea among conservatives that he simply cannot be trusted......

...and I'll invoke DAT's words of wisdom:

I'd rather take a chance on Santorum being able to set aside his personal religious beliefs and act in the interests of all, and be able to convince people of that, than to take a chance on Romney actually staying a "Conservative" for a nanosecond longer than it takes to get elected, and then pursuing whatever take he thinks most expedient once he has the power of incumbency behind him and doesn't think he needs the Conservative base any longer.

I hope this dooms (r)omney.

Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

I hope this dooms (r)omney.

its the type of statement that could be the "nail in the coffin" if everyone hears about it.

i want him to answer:
how can you cut 20% income tax revenue and not impact the deficit?
even if you end most of the deductions?
if 49% pay nothing, are 49% going to get a 20% increase in their negative taxrate, leading to a larger refund?
isnt the deficit so big now, that it should be impacted... downward?
how does he propose to get congress to pass this?
is he going to get congress to cut spending accordingly? how?
what is the top 1%'s "fair share"?
did mitt pay his fair share last year?

That's the essence of my problem with him...well, that, and his NRA rating, which is already shitty.

I think Romney's a slimeball coward and a whore who will assume whatever position necessary to win even 1 vote.

His aping the #OWS class-warfare noise about the 1% tells me he doesn't have what it takes to be the President.  I thought he might have been okay for a while but he opened his mouth again this week.

Today he said he is for a progressive tax code.  :banghead:

Under our current system, that's not necessarily a bad thing, if only because most of the liberals and RINOs will never agree to a flat or consumption tax.  But to sit there and claim that the "rich" (and funny how they never really define that) don't pay their fair share when in fact the top 10 percent of Americans are paying over 70 percent of the income taxes?

Seriously, never trust a guy who combs his hair with olive oil and a fork.

So he's for the status quo. I hope he noticed how well that's working for the makers and takers.

The same way it happens every time tax rates are reduced. Grow the economy. 20% of $1000 is more than 28% of $500.

Answered one of your questions.

Yeah, it sucks, but it is what it is.  Good luck repealing the 16th Amendment.

If I were Santorum or Newt, I'd be playing that over and over and over in every primary state during the rest of the season.

The income tax amendment just provides for taxing income, not REGRESSIVE taxing of income.
