Ms. Toad (5,586 posts) Profile Journal Send DU Mail IgnoreAttn admins - ad questionOn DU2, you had some control over the ad content & blocked offensive ads when reported to you.Is that still the case? If so, what is the best means of bringing them to your attention.(E.g. There were campaign fundraising ads for Santorum for a few days, and within the last day an ad for something which was using a scantily clad female to sell it.)Note: I'm not looking for a philosophical discussion of whether we ought to be siphoning money from Santorum by hosting ads in a place where they will be worthless. I'm looking for a factual answer to the question so I know whether to bother to bring offensive ads to the attention of the admins.

A lot of those ads are "stupid-smart."They see what is written on a page (Santorum, new car, vacuum cleaner) and the software throws up an ad to match the word or words on the page.I remember back in DU2 when we were discussing what an ass Ann Coulter was, that ads for her book came up as a consequence. LOTS of them--it was almost funny. As long as we are in primary season for the GOP we will probably see a lot of those type ads.The good news is that they provide revenue for the site. Let the nitwits advertise to us--it's a waste of GOP money.I am no expert on this, but this WIKI thing might help explain better than I can: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdSense
Ms. Toad (5,586 posts) Profile Journal Send DU Mail Ignore2. I know how they appear -But on DU2, the admins had an arrangement with Google under which once an add auto-appeared and was identified as not appropriate for the site, they contacted Google, and the ad was taken out of the stream eligible to be posted here.My question is whether the admins still have that arrangement. If so, I'll identify and notify them of inappropriate ads. If not, I won't bother. I asked the question generally, in connection with a Santorum ad, and didn't get a response. I was hoping that by flagging it in the subject line as a question for the admins it might actually generate a factual response. Not working so well, yet.

I thought I read somewhere that Skinner was on holiday or a trip for a week or more.I think he might have been out of pocket for a bit; you might want to give it a few more days and try again.I can't imagine anyone ignoring you--you're feisty, but not mean or rude. Their loss!
