Is it possible to have one's account tossed down the Memory Hole

I'm applying for one of those jobs where they check out your online identities and was wondering if there were a "Memory Hole" option. I'm having to delete a twitter account as well, but I hope I won't have to ditch Facebook as well.

I don't want the Memory Hole Option right this second, but would probably use it in the next few days if I could.

Well now, one wonders why the primitive's ashamed of his posting history on Skins's island.

This reminds me of when Pedro Picasso, the "Atman" primitive, was asked by his employer, a far-left radical extremist political mass-mailing outfit, to taper off hanging around with the primitives, lest some of their radical left-wing customers got offended.

But I would guess any company dealing with IT, private investigation, certain government agencies, etc... could figure it out. Especially if you have a static IP address and sent them an email.

6. The only problem with lying about having a facebook account is that anyone doing a search could potentially find the person's page. There's always the option of taking out the wall photo and any identifying info and making the rest of it private so it would look like it's another person by the same name. But if the photo and any identifying info are there (like city, etc) it's apparent the person lied, and would not look good.

I think what I would do is just deactivate the account for a while. It doesn't delete anything, and if anyone searches, the person won't show up (unless it's someone by the same name).

Or, a third option would be to set up another facebook page with the most boring, generic crap anyone could ask for. Then the person gives that information and the potential employer looks at it and nobody has to be embarrassed.

You're right, though, I think. It should be none of their damned business.

It is one of the reasons I've never joined any of the social media sites. DU I would think should not be a problem.

I have a basic rule. I don't post anything on the internet that would cause me to worry that someone, including a employer, might find and not like. If I have said anything that they find troublesome then I probably don't want to work there.

What this tells me about the OP is that he or she stated some belief that they know is not accepted by the majority and instead of wanting to stand up for that belief they choose to hid it. Either your principles are as  important as the job or your principles are suspect.

He works as a Marine Endangered Species Observer onboard dredges.  In the past he has identified the ships he was on and the exact dates when he was on them, which makes him easily identifiable to anyone interested in looking.

I'm with all of you. If you don't want anyone to see what you do online don't say it or post it. OmahaSteve being the best example we know of . The amount of ammo he's given to us and to his political opponents without anyone having to look for it is immense. It's funny to me that you say that. In my line of work I travel extensively. I use that edge to post anonymously at one of the websites I mentioned in "Full disclosure".
I use the online name NnEeWwIiPpGgUuYy. Take out the smalls to reveal the unencoded name. IiPp, of course, standing for "Internet Protocol" address. It keeps them guessing. I say the exact same thing I would if posting under my usual forum name, but none's the wiser.
