WILLISTON, Vt. -Vermont State police are confronting a prisoner prank and investigating who's behind it. Inmates tasked with making decals of the official state seal for state police cruisers took some liberties with the design. And troopers are not happy about it.

Hundreds of cruisers patrol Vermont with the state seal standing out on both front doors. The seal was originally designed by Ira Allen in the 1770s. There's a tree, mountains and a cow to honor dairy farming in Vermont.

Four years ago the state wanted more decals for cruisers, giving the job to the prison print shop in Windsor. Inmates were supposed to load the state crest image in as given to them, but someone decided to make a major change-- payback perhaps.

In the new decal, one of the spots on the cow is actually a pig. Pig is a derogatory term for police. A state trooper in Southern Vermont just noticed the altered artwork.

We all know the mike_c type; the minute he needs protection from something, he's going to be on his knees, crying and sobbing and bawling and begging and pleading and licking the boots of some cop to save him.

It always happens.

State police aren't laughing either. In a statement, Maj. Bill Sheets said "While some may find humor in the decal modifications, the joke unfortunately comes at the expense of the taxpayers."

Pallito expects the bill to replace the offending swine will run about $800.

Well, if I was a taxpayer I'd pay more than my share gladly.

(Reuters) - A female inmate at a prison print shop suspected of sneaking an image of a pig into the official Vermont state police crest may never be identified after an internal investigation failed to find the culprit.

Authorities could not find the culprit among several women at the shop who were suspected of having altered, more than a year ago, the officially-sanctioned design in a prank that went viral online after it came to light this month.

An investigation into the case is over and no charges are forthcoming, Penny Carpenter, executive assistant with Vermont's Department of Corrections, said on Thursday.

Vermont's approved state police crest depicts a spotted cow against a background of snowy mountains, but the inmates' version, featured one of the cow's spots shaped like a pig in an apparent reference to the pejorative word for police.

i bet most cops would too.
the only person who should be upset is the guy who put the inmates in charge of the logo art, and didnt catch it.
