Politics is often sausage making, but this would make the GOP look totally unprincipled. I don't see the TEA party standing for it either.
You'll recall that eons ago in the political world (and by that I mean 2 months) the GOP was raked over the PR coals for wanting conditions attached to the payroll tax cut to offset the decreased revenue. The dems howled and the GOP lost that battle hands-down.
So now the GOP is giving them exactly what they wanted the first time around.
They also get to soften the "obstructionist" label.
If they follow through with this plan and the dems walk into it (don't THEY have to lest THEY appear unprincipled?) this will be a "he who laughs last, laughs best" scenario.
