I'll take them seriously when they want to talk about all the afrocentric shows of the late 80's and 90's that had very few white characters and when they did they were mostly portrayed as morons.

Late 80's and 90's?  Go back and watch some reruns of Sanford and Son, The Jeffersons, and Good Times.

The overtly racist tones of those shows will make you swaller yer snuff.

C.S. Lewis

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

Archie Bunker, can one get get anywhere near him for making us laugh at our selves ?   The show opened our eyes on what we feared the most, our own selves and the ideas we were brought up on.

Spin off the Jefferson's, neighbors were interracial couple with a child Jefferson called a Zebra, interesting.

Lukas K. Duke - Luke
Beauregard Duke - Bo
together they drove the General Lee Dodge challenger, Handle: Lost Sheep
Uncle Jesse - Drove a white 1973 F-100, Handle: Shepard
Daisy Duke - bo/luke's cousin - Handle: Bo Peep- drove a 1980 cj7 named Dixie, with a eagle on the hood. Her shorts became fashion icons
Cooter Davenport - Handle: Crazy Cooter - Mechanic
Jefferson Davis "JD" Hogg - Boss Hogg - Corrupt County Commisionor, owned almost everything in hazzard cty. Drove a white '70 cadillac coupe de ville the "grey ghost"
Roscoe P. Coltraine - sheriff (with his bassett hound Flash) - married to Hogg's sister Lulu
Enos and Cletus were the bumbling idiot deputys

Later on Coy and Vance replaced bo and luke as the dynamic duo. why i have no idea!

Coy and Vance were brought in because the actors that played Bo and Luke quit over rights to the Merchandising that the studio was involved in. Apparently they either didn't get a fair share or anything at all at first.

Now he runs a museum/restaurant/whatever in Nashville.

I drive by it a few times a week.  I need to take some pictures before it gets too cold outside.

I used to watch the show a good deal a few years ago, but not so much now that it's only on in late- night syndication.
Racist implications? Not really.
The rebel flag on the roof of the General Lee was more a symbol of Southern identity than a sign that they wanted to reinstate slavery.
While there were no major black characters on the show (Other than the semi- recurring guest character Sheriff Little, who was shown to be an ok guy in spite of his dislike of the Dukes), minor ones popped up from time to time in episodes, and were usually portrayed as good people.

I will take the Dukes anyday over what the DUmmies watch, like 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Daily Show, Colbert Report, etc...

Suck it lurking DUmmies.

Archie Bunker, can one get get anywhere near him for making us laugh at our selves ?   The show opened our eyes on what we feared the most, our own selves and the ideas we were brought up on.

No it wasn't, it was liberal stereotyping writ large.  The "heroes" and "sane" characters on that show were a freeloading, self-righteous, whiny-assed libtard "man" (meathead) and Archie's beautiful but easily swayed daughter who were constantly fighting the good fight against the old, white bigot.  The funny part is, "Archie" (for the most part) had the queers and libs pretty much nailed.

Incidentally, the only one of them that actually had a job was the old white guy.  You want something "interesting", vesta?  Chew on that little factoid for a while.

Historically speaking, that show truly turned out to be art imitating life.

I watched a lot of Sanford and Son when it came on TVLand. There is no way in heck Redd Foxx would get away with saying the things he said today. He was harsh on Puerto Ricans. I also got my first taste of All in the Family from TVLand. That show was hilarious; but they did make the 'bigot' on the show the 'dumb guy'. He rarely got words right; but he did have Dems nailed :)

I grew up watching the Dukes of Hazard, and I loved it (mainly because it was "based" in GA, where I live). I also knew several people like Cooter, Bo, and Luke. I watch the reruns now and realize how stupid (and predictable) it really is. A lot of my childhood favorites disappoint when I re-watch them now :(

I stand corrected remembering some of the very things you mention.
