Santorum Cancels Florida Events to Spend Time With Hospitalized Daughter

Rick Santorum will not appear at any of his Florida campaign stops today, instead staying with his family and youngest daughter Isabella, who was admitted into a Philadelphia hospital Saturday evening.
ABC News

I hope this doesn't hurt him in Florida.  I like Rick. :(

Family is more important than politics.

I hope his daughter is ok.

Family is more important than politics.

Always.  Too bad too many people in politics and regular joes have forgotten that.

Rick Santorum was the first prospective candidate to hold a Town Hall with our SC Tea Party group here in Charleston, before he announced his run.  I can honestly say that I saw a fire in him.  He spoke for an hour and then took questions from the audience and he didn't back down, didn't hedge and didn't ask us to agree with him.  He simply stated his case as a conservative that holds very strong beliefs.  His family values are real and unfortunately probably the reason he is unelectable.

He's a good man, unlike most pols. He was supposed to have a big rally in Sarasota today, at 2pm. They said it would have had the largest attendance of any rally locally. It's a shame about his daughter. I even donated (not much) to his campaign. I really hope that he or Newt get the nomination.

Family is more important than politics...

...to Rick Santorum. Others, not so much. I hope everything turns out well, Rick.  :(

The sad reality is, his lack of presence on the campaign trail while he's seeing to his daughter will likely result in poorer results.

I admire his loyalty to family. As they say, when you're lying on your deathbed, it ain't your co-workers who are going to be there with you -- it'll be family.

Santorum back on the campaign trail after sick daughter makes 'miraculous turnaround'
Published January 30, 2012
FoxNews.com

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. –  GOP presidential hopeful Rick Santorum is headed back on the campaign trail after his sick 3-year-old daughter made a "miraculous turnaround" Sunday.

Santorum cancelled many weekend campaign events after returning home to find his daughter Bella hospitalized with pneumonia and "not doing well."

However, Santorum told Florida voters during a call Sunday that his daughter had turned a corner, and he would be heading back to his campaign.

He described the situation as a "very, very tough night last night" but said by late Sunday Bella was "alert and back to her own beautiful, happy girl."

"It's been a very hectic 36 hours," Santorum said. "Life in the Santorum family has dramatically improved since the late afternoon."

He said doctors hope she can go home in the next few days.

Santorum said tonight from Vegas that little Bella will be going home from the hospital tomorrow. He said she had double pneumonia in both lungs (but I was running around moving stuff again so hopefully heard it right). Tomorrow is day 3 in the oak wood floor extravaganza. I'm getting really tired moving stuff and then putting it away. SR has been doing the linon's share of the moving.

I know little about the candidates, but from what I've heard Sen. Santorum sounds most in-line with my thoughts...his clear devotion to his family (and to life issues more generally) counts as a massive positive in my book.

It sounds like he is attracting little support - other than a perception of being 'unelectable' do others here have any particular reason not to support him?

As a senator, Rick Santorum LOVED earmarks.

Rick Santorum LOVES big government, especially in education and transportation (he LOVES "No Child Left Behind," which is a monumental goat**** of biblical proportions), and let's not forget providing handouts to the little people (he fought food stamp cuts in 2005).

But then he says he wants to freeze defense spending for 5 years. WTF????

And I'm just not quite the social conservative he is.

Yeah, I admire his passion for his family and the social values he feels strongly about, but I'm just not real crazy about his voting record as a senator.

The people of Pennsylvania threw his ass out of the Senate for a reason.

As far as I'm concerned, any politician that's been in, near, around, or passing through D.C. in the past 30+ years LOVES big government.

They simply can't make the decisions to cut worthless programs, they can't stop bringing the pork home, and they can't just say "no."

"No Child Left Behind," which is a pet project of Laura Bush, was especially egregious and a monumental example of how unconservative George W. Bush really is.

But with all that, there are things about ALL the candidates that don't sit well with me.

At the end of the day, I just want Obama to get the **** out of my White House.

Thanks for that.

Most of what I'd heard about him was from conservative Catholic circles where his position on life issues can rapidly become paramount.

Whoever gets the nomination, best of luck to you in evicting the current occupant from the White House.
