Buttered Coffee

I'm not a black coffee drinker and I've been lowcarbing since August. One of the rules I'm following is no sweeteners, not even artificial ones. A small amount of heavy cream (but not milk) has been allowed in coffee, or almond milk, and the recommendation is cinnamon and vanilla extract if needed for flavor. I've been drinking it like that, but it sure hasn't been the same as back when I was using flavored creamers at work or homemade knockoff baileys at home.

Someone else on the diet pointed me toward buttered coffee, which I tried today for the first time - oh my god, it was rich and satisfying and everything I want a cup of coffee to be.

2 cups coffee (I used fresh ground in a french press)
2 Tbs unsalted butter
1 Tbs coconut oil

Hit it with the stick blender.

I used it as a meal replacement because yesterday was a refeed day (2500 calories with carbs), today was post-refeed intermittent fasting day (1800 low carb calories, but fasted except for the coffee til dinner time). I had the two cups in place of breakfast, worked a half day, ran errands, and had two more cups because I was craving more after 6 months of sad coffee. With the fats in it, I wasn't hungry at all, which is abnormal anytime I skip a meal in general and even moreso after a refeed. Carb day always bumps up my appetite.

1. I know a lot of high altitude cultures enrich tea with yak butter and I've always thought it sounded a little disgusting. However, I can see how it would give you both improved mouth feel and some long term energy.

5. what kind of low carb diet are you on?

If you don't mind my asking...

6. I don't mind at all

I'm doing the 4 hour body deal.

legumes, protein and v*****s for all meals (except no beans at dinner normally), no other foods, no other calorie restrictions 6 days a week. *exceptions allowed for full cream in coffee and occasional cottage cheese
day 7 - refeed (carbs, anything goes) to reset insulin/leptin balance and maintain your sanity

drink a pint of ice water within 5 minutes of waking..
eat within 30-60 minutes of waking.

There are some exercise and supplement recommendations, and some tips for activating brown fat but that's the basics. The exercise is minimal (4 hours a month), but I tend to do more. I've got about 15 minutes of exercises I do about 5-6 times a week (4 routines I rotate, mainly kettlebell swings and balance ball stuff.)

A year ago I was pushing 170 (size 14 and growing), I started biking hard in summer and got to 155, then started the 4hb in August and I'm at 133 now (size 8).

And now, the ever-curious fecund grasswire primitive:

7. activating brown fat?

What is that?

And what supplements?

It's a big campfire--for the cooking and baking forum, that is--but the primitives got derailed early, off-topic, and the rest of it has to do with this diet, whatever this diet is.

Uh, careful what you say, sir; otherwise the fecund grasswire primitive's going to accuse us for being the reason she hasn't opened that pie-and-jam shoppe.

You know; the usual primitive "logic."

By the way, there was a campfire in the cooking and baking forum where the primitives were looking for the housewolf primitive, and get her mixed up with the more-notorious Mrs. Alfred Packer, the hippywife primitive.  I expected to see us being blamed for the demise of Mrs. Alfred Packer, but we escaped unscathed.

Now I'm sure Mrs. Alfred Packer came to a bad end at the hands of hippyhubby Wild Bill; it's been months and months and months, and Mrs. Alfred Packer loved the cooking and baking forum so much she couldn't possibly stay away for so long.

That is, unless something, uh, happened to her.

But at any rate, Lucinda's doing a great job there, no complaints here, leading the forum, and every day I miss Mrs. Alfred Packer less and less.

Here's a wild idea--how about using coffee that doesn't taste like rancid acid, and drink it black?  Yeah, no sugar, no creamer.

What a concept!

I'm waiting for someone to tell her to toast the coffee before buttering it. :whatever:
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”
