So how many cops does it take to issue a jay walking ticket?

after which a photograph

Apparently that be nine.

So do explain to me, all those who really oppose the Occupy movement, how do you justify this show of force?

And yes, this could be the but of many a bad joke at this point.

For the record... those are NOT my taxes at work. That is the kind of action though that has been ongoing on insert occupy here. We have a name for it... harassment.

1. heres why

when they do the stats at the end of the month
9 responses
1 arrest
8 assists
fire departments pad stats the same way

2. Trust me, this was not the reason.

In this town they do not need to do that. They chase the radio all shift long. Now they are doing it doubly so and have TRANSFERRED officers from other divisions to help cover for this idiocy downtown.

They are short handed as is...

By the way, it was a JAY WALKING TICKET, not an ARREST... Granted, they have done those for stupid shit that usually requires a ticket. Gets worst... last time I checked, 250+ arrests, and 30 actual prosecutions.

3. in no way a defense

just what i would attribute such a gathering to mean here in my town

im with you on the occupy movement and read pretty much every report you drop here

here in my town they justify their overstaffing with inflated response numbers

Quote
nadinbrzezinski (101,309 posts) Profile Journal Send DU Mail Ignore

4. Alas in San Diego they are way understaffed

They are the lowest staffed urban PD in California, as well as the lowest paid.

Yes, I have heard over the scanner calls for backup on a psychiatric call, and none to be had. (That be officer safety)

11. I know the answer to this

Why do so many show up? If they are on the scene, their name is included in the police report, which means they get court time. Court time equals overtime pay or comp time (compensation time).

I know this because I was once married to a cop; also about 15-20 years ago, the Miami Herald ran a series of articles on an investigation they did with the varies police departments in South Florida. They found cops showing up at scenes to have their name included in the report - just racking up the OT.

If you normally work the afternoon or midnight shifts, that means you have to go to court on your own time. Except they pay you for that time - at time & a half.

They pay out this court time every quarter. My ex had the choice of taking pay or take extra days off with the earned comp time. He'd mix it up.

I think your answer is correct - to pad the stats; & the OP is correct - to harass; & I'm correct - to pad their pocketbook.

It's less about public service & more about self-interest.

Those cops are lucky to still be alive.

6. Well I need to squirrel away money for a Nikon 1

I NEED a larger zoom.

(And I still do not want to take the GOOD RIG, for the record that was hubby and good rig)

7. Hadn't realized that was your hubby's. Thank you. And, you're right, both you be careful out there .

Photo equipment can be replaced. Good reportage, a bit more difficult.

8. Well, yes, and we have several cameras that fit different threat levels, and I mean the threat level.

The camera I use to take movies too is pretty good, but the zoom at times is not enough.

Why I will have to squirrel away some dough. Well, to be honest I need a recorder first. I TRIED to use the IPOD with a 99 cent app, but truly it is not doing what I need it to do. I might give it ONE more try and one MORE app.

^ question about that.

I have a problem with it.  There's something fishy here, but I can't put my finger on it.

9. You can never have enough.

The jaywalker could be dangerous. Maybe armed. Maybe a terrorist. She could have friends hiding in the trees above, ready to pounce on a lone cop or two. There could be snipers on rooftops or in any window. The coppers would have been fully justified calling in a swat team and bomb squad when I think of all the possibilities.

Quote
nadinbrzezinski (101,309 posts) Profile Journal Send DU Mail Ignore

10. Nah the SWAT team is for the truly dangerous

encroachment guys...

At this point I have developed a really raw sense of humor. That said, on a serious note... they actually had TWO officers from the Traffic Division on this call.

I guess stepping off the street is the purview of traffic.

Well, I read one of those wrong.  I, at first, thought Nads was referring to taking a camera to the movies.  I can't imagine the depth and breadth of a documentary done entirely by Nads and hubby.  Nope, I can't.

It looks like all law enforcement officers, unless the person behind the motorcycle on the right is a pedestrian, but who can tell.  The guy has on a black shirt, so it could just be another cop.  Then again, it could just be someone who is walking on the sidewalk behind the cops and nadin snapped the pic.

One thing for certain, I'm not taking her word for it.

Just gonna call Nads a liar. :bs:
All that's seen is a group of LEO's and nothing else.
Nads made up the minor infraction in order to re-establish her tarnished DUmp cred.
Just another BS lie, like so many others.

So the husband takes surreptitious photos of police officers, too.

More evidence that he retired after a patrol on a sub with a faulty O2 sensor. Brain damage.

Nutcase nadin was tipped off on this jaywalk abuse by a post on Facebook.

Nadin - You are a ****ing idiot. Your idiocy is only surpassed by your illiteracy.

Cameras "fitting" threat levels ? What kind of self aggrandising bullshit is that.

You're trying to sound like some kind of pro-level journalist, yet discussing entry level consumer camera gear and IPODS for photography.

An IPOD for ****s sake.

Seriously professional stuff there.

I'm nowhere near a professional level photographer and just ONE of my lenses could buy all your camera gear several times over. Even my "fishing camera" - the one that's waterproof , drop resistant and so on could probably replace all the gear you think you have.

But by all means continue trying to sound as if you're a professional - It probably amuses your fellow DU inmates nearly as much as it does us over here.

This is what she's talking about.  I assume she thinks this is an adequate substitute for the GOOD RIG, for the record that was hubby and good rig.

It beats using an IPOD.

By the way, when was the last time the nutcase used the word "meta"?

For a couple of weeks, it was "meta-this" and "meta-that", all over the place.

She had no idea what it meant, but everything she preached to the DUmp about was "on a meta level".

"Meta", for a while, became the new "parenteral".

Now, since she's still embarrassed about her "Syrian war in twenty-four business hours" fiasco, we don't see much of her, but when we do,
it's on a meta-less level.

Now she is talking about several cameras including a video one that she never used except for a ride in a car at an auto show.

I'll put the pictures that I took with my android cell phone, from when I visited the homeless urine-soaked bums at the civic center, up against anything nadin has posted.  I don't think she really has much of a rig, I think her idea of a good rig is largely based on fantasy.

I'm starting to doubt that she even has the 4 batteries that she claims.

Batteries for my mid-level Nikon DSLR start at $20ea on ebay. They're more than double that in stores.

One of them will be enough to take at the very least 1000 photos.

I'm thinking by batteries nadin means a pack of AA disposables.

Just speaking as a Las Vegas resident, but our police officers are ticketing jaywalkers more frequently now.  We have a huge problem with jaywalkers in this city.  Nobody walks the extra 20 feet to the crosswalk.  People are always darting out in front of cars going 45 mph on a six lane road.  In December, I swear we had a pedestrian-auto accident EVERY SINGLE DAY!

As a driver, I don't want to have the guilt of hitting (and possibly killing) someone who was too lazy to walk a few extra feet to a marked crosswalk.

This issue has nothing to do with Occupy Whatever.
You may call me Jessica or Jess.
