Wah...this group is making me so sad and hungry

My fridge stopped working over a week ago. It was heartbreaking when I threw out all my food. I'm now using a dorm compact fridge and only have the bare minimum in the house.

BTW, I think, *think*, I should have a working fridge Monday instead of a lovely 23 cu ft decoration in the corner of my kitchen.

1. I know how you feel.

We ran out of propane for several days last week, and this group just made me want to cook something.

The Bayer aspirin primitive, cbayer the thread slayer, lives on a sailboat, remember, somewhere off the shore of southern California.

2. It's just awful

The good news is that it's a fuse that's out in the fridge. It's soldered onto the circuit board so the repair guy was like "oh yeah, you'll need to replace this whole control board." The control board is $200 and he was telling me it would be 2 weeks before it came in. A phone call to a friend and some googling and we find out this is a known issue with my model and that you can just pop in an in-line fuse holder and not replace the whole shebang. Plus, if it's not soldered on then in the future if it goes out I can replace it myself.

My mom bought me the mini-fridge after I told her I'd be coming to her house every night for the next two weeks.

8. yeah, the google is great. i had the same thing with a washing machine.

it was a little resister that blows when the balance switches get beat to death by overloaded loads. i took it to a little electronic repair shop around the corner and they fixed it for $10.

And the hypochondrial primitive probably bitched and moaned about having to pay ten bucks.

4. Ah, memories.

Going without a fridge is rough. My husband and I went without one for several months after we bought our first home. He was laid off shorly after we moved in, so money got pretty tight.

Anyway, a neighbor offered us the use of his old chest type coke machine. It was the kind where the bottles hung from a metal rack, and you had to slide them around to get one out after you put your nickel in. <======

It was winter, so between that and the back porch, we actually survived.

5. It's been too warm to use the back deck

My mom jokingly suggested I use a cooler and get ice out of the ice machine at work every day before I leave.

It wasn't too bad for a week of eating canned soup and fast food, but it was getting expensive and frankly I was tired of it quickly. After I told my mom I'd be coming to her house every day until it's fixed she graciously offered to buy me a mini-fridge. At least now I had milk for my coffee this morning and some other perishable foods to eat.

6. I know exactly how you feel - ours broke when we were out of town in November

We had cleaned out most of the edibles from the fridge part before we left, but there was a lot in the freezer - including the curry I had planned for a quick dinner when we got home. The person who looks in on the cats thought it had been out for at least 4 days, and the sour cherries in the freezer had fermented, broke their bags and leaked all over the floor, mingled I think with the thawed chicken livers. So there we were, jetlagged, washing the floor five times before we stopped sticking to it. We were able to salvage some condiments and pickles - I figured since they were designed to last they'd be ok with all that salt, brine and vinegar - but most was a loss. Sad.

We got 30 pounds of ice and were able to keep the replacement milk, butter and other perishables cool in the cooler until we were able to get a replacement.

7. It had gone out a couple of days maybe before I noticed

My dad said "you don't open your fridge every day?" and I said "well, apparently not". Actually I was taking a mini-mester class that week at school, so I was going from work to school and not getting home until 10:30pm. I think Wed I opened the fridge and ate something from there, Thursday I had popcorn when I got home (no fridge usage) and Friday I think I just picked up some fast-food on the way home b/c I was so tired and didn't want to cook. So, I noticed the fridge on Saturday at lunch time and the fridge was already past the salvage point and the freezer stuff was getting pretty thawed.

I went last week sans-fridge and ate a lot of canned soup and fast-food. Thankfully my mom got me that mini-fridge. It's been wonderful to have milk for my coffee and yogurt!

You know it's not the end of the world, but it still sucks.

Typical entitlement attitude of a DUmmy. Didn't ask her mom if she could come over, instead told her that she would be coming over every day. Mom sucked it up and bought the mini-fridge because she was afraid once her parasitic spawn got back in the house, she would be unable to get rid of her.

Funny, when my fridge broke some years ago, it never occurred to me to make it my mother's problem.

0bama get his way and the electricity rates "necessarily skyrocket"  the DUches won't be able to afford to keep a refrigerator running.  Or worse, with the 0bama Regime's EPA closing power plants the frig will only be able to run on odd or even days. Just like Carter produced for filling your car with gas.

Refrigerators are my favorite modern convenience.  Used to go to cow camp every summer and really missed cold anything.  But, geez, if you live in town keeping a cooler or two isn't un-doable.  I've had to do that more than once.

I got to watch an episode of "House Hunters International" a couple months ago.  I was surprised by the little refrigerators and other appliances apartments there had.  Don't DUmmies think everything non-American is better?  This one could be bragging.

When my fridge broke a few years back and I had to wait a few weeks for the parts to come in, I just went out and bought me a new one. My old one, since repaired, is now in my shop, full of beer. Know why I could do that, dumpmonkies? Cause I budget and save enough for the curveballs life throws at you from time to time.

Oh and BTW dummies... I don't want to hear about how you can't find a living wage job. Maybe if you would have gotten a degree in something besides the history of music or womyns studies, you could get a decent job.

Yes, my fridge is broken.  Since you all think I'm stupid let me explain.  I was taking an evening course at school the week the fridge apparently broke.  I didn't realize it was broken until none of the food was salvageable.  The repair men were jerking me around about replacing the whole control board versus just resoldering a new fuse on to it.  An in-line fuse holder is going to be put on instead of soldering a new fuse on, so that it's an easy replacement in the future.

I work at the same company with my mom.  I see her every day.  She offered to buy the mini-fridge since her house is out of my way and it would be inconvenient for me to store my perishable food at her house.  I get along with her great.  I didn't "make it my mother's problem" I was just calling to tell her what was going on since she said "let me know what the repair men say."

I work for a large defense contractor.  I don't want to spend the money on another fridge I don't need when this one is only 3 years old.  My home does not have a shop or garage as the garage was converted into living space well before I bought it, so I'd have no place for a second fridge that as a person living alone doesn't need.  I make a good living doing what I do, but I don't have a lot of savings because I pay for my tuition and books myself.  I currently attend school at a private conservative business school and graduate this May Magna Cum Laude.  I've already received hints for better job offers within the company I work for and I'll start a dual Masters (MBA & MPA) program in the fall.

Any more questions or assumptions you'd like me to address?

Is this the sort of thing that'll bring you back here, I hope?

For those who don't know, Miss Mia was one of the Mayflower of those joining conservativecave more than four years ago, coming from our old home.  She did a great deal to help build up conservativecave in its early stages, for which those of us who were around then, are sincerely grateful.

But alas she belongs to the other political party, and after a while she left.

When I saw this campfire on Skins's island, I was sort of hoping it'd bring her here, because I'm being real when I insist we miss her.  I didn't, uh, quite expect the responses, though.

It doesn't look like it.  I was going to head down there with friends, a married couple, and the husband recently lost his job.  I don't think they have the funds.

Well if what you say is true, then I owe you an apology. Frank seems to think you are good people, so I will defer to him. I do wonder though... a Magna Cum Laude (MCL) in business should understand how to make a budget. You said you make a "good salary". Sounds to me like you are spending everything you make. Never a good idea. Did you see if your company has a tuition assistance program? I would think a MCL would have looked into that.

If you are young, that would explain a lot.

Again, if what you say is true, please accept my apology. If you are lying, then eat shit and die.
