Bare with me, I'll get to the point in a little while.
I have been letting an out of work fellow I know with a loader haul some of my junk to the scrap/salvage yard on a halfers (50/50) deal. Scrap steel is bringing from 12 to 14 cent a pound right now. I have ridden with him to the yard a few times and I was amazed at what I saw. There was a continuous line of cars and trucks hauling stuff into the yard. Most of it was rusty tin, old fences, old rusty cars/trucks, lawnmowers, bicycles, even pots and pans...light stuff that had been sitting in the woods and bushes for 50 years. I saw where some of my stolen stuff had gone and why.
I have talked to another fellow that is selfemployed, when he has something to do, and he has been cleaning out his lifetime collection of junk also. He says he wouldn't be selling it but he hasn't made any money in 2 years...needs money. Same situation with a lot of people.
OK here's my point at last. Most of this scrap steel they tell me is going to China. When they have bought up all the scrap steel and we don't even have a rusty tin can left to sell them,....
will they start a war with us? Hey, it's the excuse the Japanese and liberals use for starting WW2. We don't have large steel mills any more nor is there any iron ore mining in the US that I know of. Most of our domestic steel production today is running on scrap steel and competing with the Chinease to obtain that. After all the old scrap steel is gone and there is no quick, easy source of steel,
How can we fight a war without large amounts of steel production? It takes time to open a mine and build smelting plants. There will be no scrap to bridge the gap.
We have been set up for defeat.
