Systematic Chaos (7,057 posts) Profile Journal Send DU Mail IgnoreUPS blows goats. We're shredding the US Post Office for THIS shit???Pardon my venting tonight, but I'm just livid right now.... Funny, but I never have a problem with the US Post Office like I do with this asshat driver from UPS we always have. Long story short, my wife, roommate and I live in an apartment complex in a relatively poor, high-crime part of Las Vegas, where anything not nailed down is subject to being walked away with in quite a hurry. We are frequent customers of Amazon, where we can get a lot of non-perishable food items in bulk for an excellent price. These items are delivered by UPS. Our roommate is a disabled veteran who often receives shipments of medical supplies from the VA, also by UPS. The UPS driver I'm talking about has delivered over 80% of our packages in the past 3 years. His method of delivery is to give a soft knock upon the door, drop our boxes in front of the door, and run back to his truck without waiting for an answer. I am not exaggerating in the least when I say that we've purposely waited in the front room for this guy to drop something off, and in the 10 seconds it took to get up from the dining table or couch to the front door the ignorant **** was already out of sight. In the past 3 years, we have had a large box of gauze for our roommate's wound care disappear, as well as two other packages containing food items. Today, we lost a box containing four bags of Bob's Red Mill buckwheat pancake flour because my wife was at work, I was sleeping during the early afternoon and our roommate was either also sleeping or had his TV on. And I tried to stay awake until the driver came. I really did. But due to my disability my energy levels are all over the map and sometimes I can't keep my eyes open no matter what. This was one of those afternoons. Thus, our 7th or 8th call to UPS with the same angry complaints about this useless driver, yet another call to Amazon to get a replacement package (our second time with them, and they're friendly and understanding -- as opposed to the VA which took forever to replace roommate's case of gauze to bandage his ulcerated leg). Yet another demand that they force this driver to either wait at the door and have us sign for the shit and not him, or to drop the stuff off at the front office where we can get it later. In all this time I haven't had a single problem with any packages delivered by the Post Office. Not one. And there have been medical supplies and prescriptions sent for our roommate every month, without incident. Used video games from ebay, clothes, all kinds of things. Those things are put in a locked box, a key is waiting for us in our main mailbox, and just like that we have our stuff. But hey! We're going to dismantle the Post Office and leave matters in the hands of these private dipshit corporations, because they're just so much better at what they do, you know?
Lazy,useless piece of crap.
being sleepy is a disability?i might just change my mind on obamacare, im gonna get me some obama money!
They were diet flapjacks.

Don't you know there are delivery time limits, understaffed, people doing some bonused freak's bidding, that are being watched? Why would you call this working person who you apparently don't personally know "the ignorant ****." He obviously hasn't given you his time for that.

I'll call him whatever I want, okay?View profileI guess I forgot to explain that the other 20% of deliveries not done by this driver to whom I'm referring are completed by someone who knocks loudly, waits at the door and allows a resident to sign for the package. The 20% driver, not an ignorant ****.The 80% driver I'm complaining about, ignorant **** and I will shout it from the rooftops, thank you kindly. So don't tell me I'm over the top unless and until it's you who has lost some important medical supplies and have someone with open ulcers who can't properly bandage his wounded limb, or an expensive electronic item because it was carelessly left in a place where anyone could steal it.
Or tired of carrying around heavy boxes of pancake mix.

Glad you're able to sit home for a day or two waiting for a pkg.I'd guess most people don't have that luxury because they have to make a living outside the home during UPS delivery hours.I own a retail business. We've shipped more than 20,000 packages in the past 10 years, 99.99% via USPS. We are offered large discounts to ship with UPS and FedEx but I would never switch. Those services are substandard in every meaningful way, most importantly breakage rate. USPS Priority is consistently on time and undamaged.Conversely, when I'm the buyer, I appreciate the flexibility of having more than one delivery option: 1) a rented PO box, 2) my residence, or 3) hold at the PO for pickup. UPS has very little flexibility unless you have a friend or neighbor willing to stay at home and act as package broker. Our route driver is from the throw and run school and has more than once left expensive electronics in the front yard in the rain. This and similar WTF moments have made me swear off of companies who offer UPS-only shipping options.
Nye Bevan23. You lost me when you referred to the UPS guy as an "ignorant ****".,If this is your attitude when dealing with working people I'm not surprised that you're still having problems.
I guess he wants the UPS guy to cook it for him too ? He must have fat blocking his hearing because I can clearly hear a package being put on my doorstep.
Saving Hawaii13. Have you thought about leaving the driver a note on your door?Something on a big sheet of paper written with a sharpie so that the words are easy to read from a distance and the whole thing is hard to miss? Maybe placed right about where he'd be knocking? Something real short and straightforward. "Hey, could you knock louder and maybe wait a second? If we don't answer could you please leave the package at the front desk? If you leave it here it'll get stolen. I have health problems and sometimes don't hear you knocking so I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks, xxxxxx." Two bucks says that when you call up UPS, they never even bother to mention what you're upset about with the driver. Corporate is a trainwreck with that company and communications aren't very good at all. If you can find a way to communicate directly with the driver, you might have better luck.

There is a solution with UPS.View profileI have plenty of issues with UPS, most of which involve the glacial rate at which the shipments arrive. I just got some coffee (San Francisco to Wisconsin) that took over a week to get here.BUT one cool thing that UPS does is that ... on their tracking page (just plug in the tracking number of your shipment) ... you can sign up to have a text message sent to your phone when the package arrives on your doorstep. As soon as the driver hits the "delivered" button on his computer the text message is sent to your cell phone. Cool. I've done this twice ... today was the second time ... and it worked flawlessly. You can also opt for an email notice instead, but the text message is so convenient. Happens instantly. But that said, this place I get my coffee from used the Postal Service as their cheapest delivery option in the past, and they were GREAT. Now you can get USPS delivery, but it costs extra. UPS??? ... not that great. But the text message notice is a very great thing. Check it out next time you get a shipment from Amazon..rog.

Thanks for the tip, but sadly we can't afford cell phones.View profileWe're hoping that with my wife's income that may change, but for now she has a very basic cell phone with only a handful of minutes per month which was provided while we were on the SNAP program before she started working again. The other two of us just have a basic landline through our cable service which doesn't even have free long distance.
