I'm having a cateract removed from my right eye on the 31st. I feel really good about the doctor who is going to be doing it (he came highly recommended). He is going to use a mono focal lens set for distance as my left eye has no cateract and I see really well close up and pretty good at distance in that eye as well (it's my dominant eye).
This cateract, for those of you who don't already know, is from steroid drops I have had to put in that eye for UVeitis. Sometime after 860 drops people usually develop cateracts. It is cumulative, you can put 100 drops in one year then none for several years and start the drops again, the 100 drops that you previously put in your eye still count towards the 860 that cause cateracts. So your lens won't "heal" over time from steroid use. I have also had several steroid shots in that eye which contribute as well.
I have a very slight astigmatism. Not enough to put a toric lens in apparently so he wants to make a tiny slit in my cornea (I think) to fix the astigmatism. Has anyone had this procedure or cateract surgery? I am really nervous about having this done. I know it is a very common procedure that has a very high success rate but I'm kind of freaking out about it.
Oh and another sucky thing, he talked to my other eye doctor who treats my UVeitis. They both decided I needed a shot of steroids in my eye to help prevent UVeitis after the surgery. I will most likely get a nice bloodshot eye from the shot (I get a bloodshot eye every time I have gotten one).
