When will he end the hunger strike?

What are his demands?

A dialogue with public officials on the issue

Period.
He should conduct his fast-to-the-death in a roadside ditch, in a remote rural area infested with fire ants.

That worked like a dream for the Ditch Witch.

Who can forget those televised, face-to-face meetings Cindy Sheehan had with W.

It's a winning strategy.

In fact, he shouldn't stop with hydraulic fracturing. He should force a shutdown of all crude oil recovery.

That's the ticket.

If this "meeting" between Wee Willie & Muhammad Ali really took place, I wish the former heavyweight champ would have pummeled Pitt into oblivion.

If I recall correctly--it was a very long time ago--the Bostonian Drunkard today is considerably more flaccid, more flabby, more greasy, than Muhammad Ali was in person.  Of course, one's a drunkard and the other was a boxer, but still.....

I also wanted to say that since this was probably before your time, it wasn't anything unusual for passengers on international flights to see a "celebrity" of one sort or another also on board.  This was before the Reagan-Bush-Gingrich-Bush prosperity that made international flights more affordable to ordinary people; when flying internationally was still a "special" event.

I'm sure others here who flew pre-prosperity days have similar anecdotes, about being on a flight with this celebrity or that celebrity.

Other than the formal courtesies involved with my inquiring of his family, some chitchat about the weather, and my remark that he was smaller in real life than he looked in the newsmagazines, I don't recall much else.  His family was fine, he'd seen all sorts of weather flying from Manila to London and was expecting to see more, blah-blah-blah.

I was just a sullen saturnine teenager irritated at having to go back to school; and besides, I'd always been taught to leave people alone, as usually they appreciate their privacy.

One of those random by-chance meetings.....I still consider my random by-chance encounter with Omaha Steve mountains more interesting than this was.  Nothing against Muhammad Ali; as mentioned, boxing isn't, and wasn't, my thing, and I couldn't hardly say anything interesting about it.

Damn it.

I just checked.  I'm going to have to dig in the archives now.

The date--February 1978--and the place--aboard a TWA flight from London to Chicago--are right, but Muhammad Ali fought Joe Frazier in Manila in 1975.

He fought Leon Spinks in Las Vegas in February 1978.

Trust me; it's not a failing memory, but more so that the impact of my casual encounter with him, I judged of so little consequence and meaning that I didn't bother to remember all the details.

Pitt going on an alcohol fast would probably be more effective. I think they'd take that seriously to see that kind of devotion. Food, schmood--seeing a Bostonian drunkard lose the drink, now that's an effort.

I'm with BEG, my children are all I'd fast for and it would be to feed them first in lieu of myself if things were that desperate.I've got a soft heart and probably would do for others too, but my children are my first priority in the pecking order of things.

As for hunger strikes in general, I never got those. Doesn't someone have to actually care first in order for you not eating to have any sort of impact? This man's family should be the ones concerned about his irrational behavior, not me, not the company looking to mine natural gas, not the CEO of any company or the head of any state. JMO though.

The support of William Rivers Pitt is the kiss of death to any human endeavor.

He'll be sending me updates when he can (his computer went to the zoo, so he has to use the library computer for emails and such).

Check in here, and show your support.

Best of luck, Pat. We're right there with you.

Alright, what is the over/under on how long this lasts?

I'm going with two weeks, fourteen days tops.

Before someone asks, no they aren't business weeks/days either, they are actual days.

Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

This should be as enthralling as nutcase nadin chronicling the San Diego wino protests.

  • Where are you going? I was gonna make espresso!
I've gone without food for longer, only because the cooks forgot what food was and tried to serve us some ungodly shit while out on op.

I lost 25 pounds in a six-week spec op once.  It was that bad.  Don't ever let anyone tell you submarine food is the best.
