DUmpster admitting a gas theft or sarcasm?

If your going to steal something I wouldn't post it on a message board, but then again these are DUmpmonkeys and nobody ever accused them of being the brightest bulb.  :-)

I just spent $22 on a locking gas cap.
 I accidentally left my gas cap at a service station a couple of weeks ago, so I needed one anyway.

But I figured, now is the time- people are getting desperate, and if you aren't parking in a locked garage every night... somebody might come along to siphon your tank.

I thought most newer vehicles had a screen in the filler neck to prevent theft.
