Tell Kansas Republican Speaker who prayed for the President's death to resign

EXPLOITING RELIGION TO CALL FOR THE PRESIDENT'S DEATH IS UNACCEPTABLE

You might be surprised to hear that Mike O'Neal, the Republican Speaker of the Kansas State House, is praying for President Obama.

Unfortunately, he's praying for the President's death. And he's exploiting the Bible to do so, circulating an email that cites Psalm 109: "Let his days be few; and let another take his office. May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow." O'Neal said of the violent Psalm "At last -- I can honestly voice a Biblical prayer for our president."

Sadly, it's not unusual for Republican politicians to use vile and hate-filled rhetoric when speaking about President Obama. But when they exploit religion to do so, people of faith have a moral responsibility to condemn it.

Sign our petition below demanding that Speaker O'Neal resign immediately!

As people of faith, we believe that scripture should never be used to justify praying for the death of anyone. Speaker O'Neal's hateful abuse of scripture is unacceptable and a disgrace to his office, and he should immediately resign.

By the way, the advertisement accompanying the dysmenopausal Kansas school teacher's campfire is for "thyroids" to cure "brain fog."

Really.

Honest.

2. They've been passing that one round for 3 years now.

And I don't think it's accurate, or possibly even in the Book of Psalms. I seem to remember a couple o years ago where it was shown to be a distortion of what an actual passage was.

Well, but Anne, with her abysmal lack of knowledge and understanding about any religion, wouldn't know that.

Someone told her that was it, and she had no choice but to believe it was it.

Do they expect everybody else to do their work for them?

Rather than do the simple and obvious thing of looking it up, they just reply that they 'think' it's not there. As part of a genuinely reality-based world I did look it up - Douay Rheims translation Psalm 108 (equivalent to Ps. 109 in Protestant Bibles) verse 9: 'May his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.'

It would involve actually reading Bible verses.  Vampires, crosses, you know the drill...

There's a lot of atheists at DU who know the bible quite well. They use passages to condemn out frailties, shortcomings and weaknesses.

They can't grasp the idea that we are human and make mistakes.

I doubt they know it real well.  I doubt they've even read much of it.  They just regurgitate the cherry picked verses from the "hate Christian" sites to try to act like they know something.  If they'd ever read it, they'd know how many of those are pulled completely out of context, and how they seldom make the case the DUmmies are trying to make.

Of course the DUmmies are misconstruing this whole thing. The passage I have seen mentioned in this joke for three years now is this one verse from Psalm 109, verse 8, "Let his days be few; and let another take his office." In other words, "I can't wait until his term his over!" The joke does NOT include verse 9, which says, "May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow." In other words, it is NOT a death wish.

The Journal-World also revealed that O’Neal had forward another email which referenced the Bible verse Psalm 109:8, which reads: “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.”

The very next verse adds: “Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”

The verse became a conservative meme in 2009 after it began appearing on bumper stickers, t-shirts and even toys. The most common slogan was, “Pray for Obama: Psalm 109:8.”

“At last — I can honestly voice a Biblical prayer for our president!” O’Neal wrote. “Look it up — it is word for word! Let us all bow our heads and pray. Brothers and Sisters, can I get an AMEN? AMEN!!!!!!”

This confirms what I thought: The joke is specifically about verse 8 and does not include verse 9.

No one in his right mind would ever pray for the jug-eared muslim's death.

It sounds very attractive, until you consider that it would put Plugs Biden into the White House.

And put John Boehner a heartbeat away.

Biden would drown in his own vomit after a night of celebration on cheap muscatel.
