The one time I've supported cutting the fat out of defense spending was when I learned that Bela Pelosi's fancy superluxury airplane was funded via the Department of Defense.
Now,
that, I call "fat."
I'm sure the White House over the decades--but more so under the present occupant it seems--has used services, equipment, and personnel charged to the defense budget. That's more fat.
It's true the president's Commander-in-Chief of the armed services, but that doesn't entitle him to charging all these extra items to the defense budget. Personnel, equipment, and research and development are more important than any silly prerogatives of a civilian who happens to be Commander-in-Chief.
So if they wish to cut fat, cutting the personal services given certain people only on the basis of an office they hold should go first. I'm sure it's a mighty big chunk of change.
