53 year old Donna Chen was out walking her dog when she was struck and killed by 22 year old Blake Talman. Her dog, a vizsla, ran off despite his injuries. He was rescued by a fisherman quite some distance away - and more than half a mile at sea.

You'd think the press would be all over this.  I haven't found any updated stories about the dog, only the DUI/manslaughter charges against the driver.

Nothing surprises me down here in Floriduh---it takes a while to adjust. I'm still in the process (will be 2 years in May).

I thought that I had heard something on the local news---it had to be around here. They said it was close to Siesta Beach, which isn't far from us. It's weird, we don't get local TV news here in Sarasota. We have Verizon, which doesn't get the local small Sarasota station. Sometimes Tampa covers our stories, but not often.

Perhaps I shouldn't be so stubborn. I got so mad at the local lib rag that I cancelled it. We were without the paper for a month or more, then SR got a new subscription, but only Thursday through Sunday. I think all the news must happen Mon-Wednes. Oy!

Just found an AP article that says the accident was on Siesta Key, only a few miles from our house. The woman was jogging on the sidewalk and a 22 year old, drunk, had already been in another accident coming from the beach. He ran over her. She was one of our tourists. He's being held in Sarasota County jail now.

What a jerk. They discovered the dog's identity by taking it to a local vet, who read its microchip.

Yeah, I guessed Siesta Key from the reference to Midnight Pass. And not surprised Verizon doesn't carry WWSB (or is it SNN6?).

He better be put under the jail.  There is no "accident" there with what he did.  That was some premeditated shit. :argh:
