Washington (CNN) -- President Barack Obama unveiled his administration's plan Thursday for a leaner, cheaper military, a reflection of Washington's fiscal belt tightening and slower national economic growth.

The president insisted the new strategy -- which eliminates the military's ability to actively fight two major wars at once -- will allow U.S. armed forces to effectively combat terrorism while confronting any new threats from countries like China and Iran.

Bottom line:  We're boned.  Ground combat forces look to be taking the brunt of it, since GE doesn't make all that much really pricey stuff for grunts.

This was the plan all along when the Super Committee was made a part of the debt-ceiling increase.  Gut the military and focus on manpower.  These cuts are going to drive unemployment back up.

It's a set up for the next war to catch the US unprepared and flat footed.  Then the next GOP president will have to make cuts in domestic spending just to have a defensive military reestablished.

This guy has learned zilch, zip, nada, from history.  Every time the US military is pared down, it has to be rapidly and expensively built back up due to war breaking out that affects our national interests.

I heard a grunt on MSDNC today say that this only stops the growth of defense spending, and she was mightily pissed.  In other words, he is using baseline budgeting in the Defense Dept., but will not do so in any other area.  Between this and his (unconstitutional) recess appointments, it is obvious they think they can win 2012 with their base alone.  This really is turning into a Carter 1979 redux.  God willing.
