Whats you New Year's Eve's plans?
« on: December 30, 2011, 06:18:48 PM »
When I was a kid I would drive for an hour to cross town and go to a party. I saw a LOT of drunks behind the wheel!

Now I'm 53 and I do not head out on New Years Eve. But 2012 would be different if the old gang were celebrating.
Its got the perfect theme: DOOM.
Eat drink and be Merry for tomorrow you DIE!

Frankly I think that old Mayan rock cutter just ran of of room...They couldn't predict the end of their own civilization, why should I trust a stone calendar that suddenly ends?

That said, this is a great excuse to rent a few disaster movies. Maybe nail the furniture to the ceiling and play that upside down ship movie...can't think of the name just yet.

and there has to be some kind of Apocalyptic Dip recipe...

OK, your turn: what are YOU doing to ring in the new year?

I have to work my normal shift tomorrow, but my wife and I will split a bottle of Champagne near midnight, but the Champagne is more for our anniversary than for New Years.  (Yes we got married on New Years Eve.)

We're heading to a miniscule town to meet friends.  Found a place to camp for the night so we don't have to risk dodging drunks on the way home.  Pretty low key.

Work until 10:30, then drinking. Girlfriend and I are going to hit up a few parties.

I work all weekend.

Just another day to me, except for the crazy that gets turned up a little from the people I deal with.

As the New Years spirit will be flowing over the festivities I would like to share an experience with you all, about drinking and driving.

As you well know, some of us have been known to have had  brushes with the authorities on our way home from the odd social session over the years.

A couple of nights ago, I was out for a few drinks with some friends and had a few too many beers and some rather nice claret. Knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before - I took a bus home.

I arrived home safely and without incident, which was a real surprise, as I had never driven a bus before.

"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

We'll have an early dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, in about half an hour.
After that, come home, watch a DVD (I'm thinking my new 'Captain America' DVD I got for Christmas), have drinks, and watch a little of New Year's Rockin' Eve.

well 4:30 my time. Put off my traditional sat afternoon nap till now. This should keep me up till midnight.
I was mortified last year when for the first time in my adult life...I fell asleep on New Years Eve.
:thatsright: The shame of it all!

I did get some videos, but I'm just as likely to waste my time here...

Happy New Years, CC!

Party poopers.

We could go to bed early, but when the fireworks go off here - it sounds like someone is dropping bombs.  It scared me the first NYE in Las Vegas.  I guess that's what we get for living a few miles from that area.

Yup.  If we aren't completely lights out at 22:30 tonight, it'll be because somebody is in the ER. :cheers1:

We had lots of silly fun.  Did my best to dance the soles off my boots.  Stopped when wheelbarrow races and wheelbarrow bronc riding took over the dance floor for a while.  Rented a cabin so we didn't have to drive the 50 miles back to town, and watched children of friends while they drove other partiers home.  The night ended around 4 a.m.
