Obamas pay Pearl Harbor tribute

Quote
HONOLULU — President Barack Obama paid his respects at Pearl Harbor on Thursday, offering a solemn tribute to the thousands of Americans killed on the “date which will live in infamy.”

The president swapped his casual vacation outfit for a dark suit as he and the first lady toured the memorial on his first visit to the site since he came here in late 2008 as president-elect. The president and first lady Michelle Obama arrived at the USS Arizona Memorial just before sunset to pay tribute to victims 70 years after the attack, which took place on Dec. 7, 1941.

The Obamas laid a wreath adorned with a ribbon that reads “In Loving Memory” and dropped orchids into the water beneath the memorial, where the sunken battleship still rests. Nearly 1200 American sailors died aboard the Arizona, and about the same number of Americans were killed in the sustained Japanese attack on the military base.
Why didn't they go last year?

...and miss a round of golf. Plus there was no upcoming election.

Still wonder why they didn't go on December 7th.  I was there 20 years ago and GHWB managed to show up for the 50th.

It was a Saturday, IIRC.  You could have heard a pin drop on that base that morning.

Been there and it was most interesting, the tourists just walked about checking every thing out.   I noticed at one side a group of Japanese on their knees praying.

I was very young but I realised this was serious as most at that time Japanese visitors once off the plane took picture of everything even their own feet.

Not one camera in sight and the group was not looking about, they had to be as I a [main lander] saw it praying.

Why, we had been their enemy, to this day I do not know why they paused to pray, was it from respect or from guilt?

This shrine is set atop of those that died beneath it.   The setting is in for us never before gone to the islands a speculates spot.   The mountains that semi-ring the harbor look like God had taken pinking shears to the mountains,

What to say standing on the monument, knowing what was beneath, then looking up at the descendants of the cause were praying for those underneath.

One of the few places on earth is this shrine as gut retching yet so peacefull.  This is indeed a most holey place not just for the victims but for the aggressors  and all man kind that wage war on others to enslave..

I like it better when the "I hate America" doesn't show up at these memorial events. Really it's better if they just keep to shopping the boutiques and lounging on the golf course.
They don't give a damn for our fallen and those who are there to pay homage don't want to hear another heartless disingenuous canned speech anyway.

I don't believe Obama issued Easter or Christmas statements this year or last, but he doesn't miss Ramadan and Kwanzaa.  We know he hates the military and Christians.

I went there in '72. I was a young cavegal and reading all those names I got goosebumps. I just kept asking my Dad questions. He told me he was surprised how i took it all in.  For me to see them anywhere near Pearl Harbor makes my ill. You know they think we deserved it. He even tried to apologize for  us bombing Japan. Arlington any place our war hero's are laid to rest is no place for the one who will be know for the destruction of this fine country.

Yes, it's almost like he defiled the event
