PCIntern (12,046 posts) Profile Journal Send DU Mail Ignore Well, this conversation today really blew me the Hell away...Last edited Thu Dec 29, 2011, 09:20 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)Imagine if you will, a really brilliant businessman, lifelong progressive, who is worth in the mid NINE-figures (no lie), his IQ is probably well over 155, and is one of the most insightful political people I'd ever spoken to. He hated Bush Jr., thought Reagan was a senile old goat upon his election in 1980, can't stand the RWers in Congress. So I came in at 6:15 AM to see him and what does he say to me? And I quote almost exactly: My wife hates, no, despises Gingrich, but I tell ya, if you put a gun to my head, I'd have to say that I'd vote for Romney, at least right now. Our guy hasn't done much as far as I'm concerned. My reply:It's OK...I'll be happy to put a gun to your head if you want to do this. He didn't laugh all that hard...
PCIntern2. I DESPISE when "liberals" pull this crap...I could get a lot of replies here and attention if I wrote that I thought that David Duke was a pretty charismatic guy with interesting ideas, but that wouldn't exactly be the correct or moral thing to do...

I don't even understand the point of the entire story. PCIntern will put a gun to his smart rich patient's head so he will vote for Romney?
My day began with a late-middle-aged lady, who STARTED our conversation by telling me that, "The teachers have to give back. Who do they think they are, anyway?"Me: Well, you were outraged...are you outraged at those who worked at AIG, or any of the other firms which have taken BILLIONS from the Treasury? She: Well, we shouldn't have bailed them out, but...Me: I hate to interrupt you, but first of all, my deceased mother was a non-union teacher, retired in 1980, and never ever made $10,000 in her lifetime, all the while teaching in Quaker schools. Public School teachers were making more, but not that much more. Do you think that they should be blamed for all this economic turmoil? She: They have to understand that they need to give up bennies and pension - we're all giving up something.Me: Really? Most people I know aren't giving up too much...certainly not their pensions and medical care, but then again, everyone I know outside of here is in pretty good shape, for the most part, so what do I know? I'm only a dentist. She: I don't believe that the rich shouldn't be taxed more, but you can't make it off the backs of the rich.Me: Well, it would be a symbolic start...hey, lemme ask you a question: do you think that it's the job of the working class like you and me to defend the rich all the time? Let them take care of themselves; why do I have to do their work for them here, in this regard, as well as my daily 'grind'?She: I see what you mean...my lower crown is bothering me and hurts when I lay down at night. Me: Let's check your insurance and see if you are eligible for a root canal and crown here. She: OK, because if I'm not, I'll put it off until I am or if I can't stand it anymore.Me: (Ironic smile)
Me: (Shaking hands) Great to see you. Howyafeeling today? (my standard greeting to peer-males sincerely felt and has lots of implications medically/dentally in terms of physical and mental health, attitude this day, friendliness)He: Pretty good...say, what do you think about that Japan business?Me: You mean Sony? I liked their reel-to-reel tape recorders...(smiling) I know, you mean the earthquake. Terrible, just terrible. (Man of few words when asked a leading question - there's often an agenda when the patient brings up a subject - I play 'wait and see'.)He: I'm not a real religious man, but I think it's a Sign.Me: I'm sorry, a Sign from who? (Yes, I know it should be 'whom', but this is conversational)He: He's telling us that our time on this Earth may not be long.Me: (Smiling but not too much) I'm sorry, you're NOT religious, but you're telling me that God is talking to us via killing Japanese? My Dad did that too...I don't think he was Divine, at least in that sense. He: (Laughing, slightly embarrassed) There's a concatenation (no lie, his word) of events which leads me to believe that these may be forewarnings of the End times.Me: I know what you mean...I felt that way when I saw the movies Fail-Safe and Dr. Strangelove back when they were released...you know they were both in black and white. He: I know, I really liked the Slim Pickens Pilot...Me: Did you know that Peter Sellers was originally to play that role, but he was sick or something and couldn't manage all the roles, so Kubrick hired Pickens? Genius move. He: Never saw the other movie...Me: What were we talking about...oh yes, End Times...see how easily we got diverted? He: (Laughing hard) Guess maybe it won't be this month...Me: You know, I listen to that radio guy, Jean Shepherd, and he once told a story about how, near Paoli (Pennsylvania) a group assembled because they thought that the Apocalypse was coming on a certain day, and when they didn't come, they couldn't go back to their jobs or stores because they had quit or sold them due to the impending doom of the Earth. He: Really.Me: Yeah, I can't make this stuff up.
I didn't understand PC's reply to the guy either, it sounded vaguely threatening. I rowed over and still don't get it. But anyway, emilyg's sigline says she misses the democratic party of old. Would this be the Zell Miller kind of democrat, before they all turned communist?
Yep, like Zell Miller and Sam Nunn
23. Then how do you explain this?Non believers should at least check out this page: http://www.darcy2012.com/ Not everyone is satisfied. Time to send a message. At least now I have a reason to vote in the primary too.
Once again, PCIntern fails to grasp what the word 'confidentiality' means. If one assumes the above story is true, then it must also be true he has broken privacy rules by telling the above tale.
