My Elderly Neighbor Almost Got Her Power Shut OFF After She Made A Payment...

... I heard my neighbor lady in an raised voice outside of my bedroom about an hour ago. She was pleading with the electric co. man not to disconnect her power ofter she had made a payment just three hours earlier. She had an email confirmation stating she had paid her bill in full with a confirmation# and another email stating her payment arrangement still had three days until it expired.

I went outside and stood a distant behind her and finished gathering some facts when the serviceman pulled out the snips and proceeded to cut the seal on the meter that is when I involved myself in the matter directly. I walked up to him and asked him... What part of the email did not say she paid her bill and why are you here before the payment arrangement date was void... He said an email is not confirmation and he was just following his route of disconnects list.

He then proceeded to pull the meter out and plug it and as he was putting it back in I said Hey is the Blackberry on your belt yours or the company's? the company he said WHY?.. I said why dont you call billing and verify her payment. So he did and infact it was paid for but said now she would have to pay a $40 reconnection fee so I got my cell phone and called customer support and reported the KING OF ASS and explained what was going and said unless they correct his wrong I would call the Police on him for robbery.

They called him on his phone and withing 30 second the meter was unplugged, reinstalled and sealed and he left without saying anything as probably instructed.

I talked with customer service a few minutes later and asked them why when someone makes a payment why they cant call the service tech and let them know after all that account was assigned them....Hum was the only reply the CS person gave and thanked me for my call. 6

I suspect the rsmith621 primitive's seen how Omaha Steve came out of nowhere to gain notoriety, and is suiting up for 2012.

I got a hundred that says this story is pure BS and a twenty that says if it were true said "the KING OF ASS" was a union member in good standing.

My elderly neighbor got her power shutoff after she made a payment and I went out to the dollar store and got her a bag of balloons and an balloon inflater so she could make her own electricity. Then I submitted a bill to the power company and was reimbursed.

Even by DUmp standards, rsmithnumbers is a special-needs moonbat. That atrocious cover letter he drafted for his wife's resume was one of 2011's funniest moments.
Let's hope he starts posting more often with winners like this shutoff bouncy.

Many states have a moratorium on power shutoff for nonpayment from November 1st to May 1st, or thereabout. So, the question is, what state does this primitive live in ?

My father was dying of cancer. My mom was a invalid. The power was cut off. I paid the bill at the store and called the company. They were inconvienced for a little over two hours till someone could swing back around to turn it back on.

My point is crap happens and workers do as they are told untill they are told something else soon after. That is life. If our hero had not stepped in the power would have been back on within a couple of hours.

Only on DU could a annoyance become the plot of a Lifetime movie.

Lets be honest here, the power company doesn't turn off the power if you are a couple days late.  I've never faced that issue, but I imagine that we are looking at being at least a couple weeks delinquent.  The technician likely got a list of houses in the morning, some time between when he got his list and when he reached her house, she paid.  Hardly the poor guy's fault.

I pay bills online all the time, and I don't recall ever getting an e-mail with a confirmation number when a bill is paid.  Also, it is fairly uncommon for a payment to go through on the same day, so it hardly surprising that the technician was suspicious of her e-mail.

There is not a company in existence, any company, that would discuss a bill or payment of said bill with anyone other than the person who on record as the responsible party for the service.

If this utility company discussed his neighbors billing or payment with rsmithbumbers, there were ethic violations and maybe even legal violations committed.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Not only that, BUT, if the elderly neighbor had an e-mail with a confirmation number, all the serviceman had to do was call the utility to verify, something that would save him a return trip to replace the meter, and the chance to square off with the rsmithnumbersasshole again.

I've been on the receiving end of a shut off in the past. It's demeaning and frightning.

You did a good thing.

The funny thing is, if you pay your bill every month you don"t need to worry about that. If for some reason money is tight and you can't pay, all you have to do is call them and set up arrangements then honor those arrangements. It's so simple even the brightest people on the planet should grasp that.

I loved the Cover Letter episode.   :rotf:  Even the DUmmies were begging him, "please don't send that!"  He was stubborn though, and thought it was a damned fine letter.

 :whatever:

At least it was a cute story.  I mean, if you're going to tell a BS working class hero/1930's-esq story, it's gotta have a good combination of evil corporation and mindless/heartless company drone and rsmithnumbers did a fair job at that.  The only piece missing from this otherwise well put together bouncy is the Bush-Cheney bumperstickers on the electric company truck.

I give it

Lets be honest here
Well, now, hell. You've just wiped out the entire DUmp. Less than five percent of all DUmp posts contain any shred of truth.

This rsmithnumbers post is entirely fictitious, from beginning to end, just like every DUmp bouncy recounting DUmpmonkey heroism.

The fact that the other DUmmies swallow every bouncy tale is a big part of the entertainment factor they provide.

DUmmies lie, all the time, and every time.

I thought about that, but figured that he worked the Great Depression hero angle so well that it still deserved a "2".

I got a hundred that says this story is pure BS and a twenty that says if it were true said "the KING OF ASS" was a union member in good standing.

Actually......[cough cough] this story sounds very true.  They are given a list.  They are to follow the list no matter what and that is due to union rules.  You can't change up their day because that is too hard on them.  So if someone pays right before cutoff they do have to pay a reconnect fee.  BUT......he said she wasn't due for cutoff for 3 more days.......that sounds like a lie.  Also, our utility company starts a moratorium in the winter and the summer for people so their power can't be cutoff if they don't pay their bill and it is under $399.00  ::)

Quote
The Holiday Bill Break ensures that no residential customers are cut off from December 15 to January 14 if they have an unpaid balance of $399.99 or less. The Holiday Bill Break replaces the previous Annual Moratorium, which prevented cutoffs regardless of the unpaid balance. However, customers typically came out of that moratorium with large balances, which had a negative affect on their ability to pay their bills moving forward.

This new program will allow customers to have extra cash during the holidays while protecting them from getting into serious debt.

The Holiday Bill Break is a separate program from the Winter Moratorium for Seniors as well as its cold weather-related moratorium. Both of these programs remain in effect.

"My Elderly Neighbor Almost Got Her Power Shut OFF After She Made A Payment..." So, I borrowed an I-POD and started a blog site demanding that the government help this woman. After a few thousand signatures we were able to get a $32,000 government grant to buy her some solar panels and now she can at least burn a 40W light bulb on sunny days. Aren't us intelligent, liberal elites great.

Might be some truth to the story.
As CR mentioned, the tech gets a list and follows it.
Mistakes can and will be made.
Had mine pulled a few months ago.
Tech misread the the address. It was back on within ten minutes. No harm done.
Smithnumbers is only trying to paint himself a big hero for just doing a neighboorly deed.
