"You will never be the same after a visit to the Velveteria," the Web site promises. And it has "arrived." A monthlong show at Powell's Books, billed as the world's largest bookstore, begins May 1.

Church of Elvis re opened.  It is on 4th & Couch.  The lady that runs the place (Former corporate lawyer) has gained a lot of weight, but she is still a lot of fun to talk to.

Powells is Heaven.  It is in several buildings all on one block, and there are four floors of books in the back two buildings.   Powells has a better selection than Amazon.

The Velveteria is kind of cool.  I like that kind of stuff myself.  It is a small storefront on 28th IIRC

The jailblazers aren't that bad.  They only skammed the city for half the price of the new stadium.   Lots of places get stuck with the whole bill. 

Portland got stung on the baseball stadium deal.  Taxpayers said no, but the city did refurbish the old one hoping to get the Expos from Montreal, but that poisoned chalice passed on to DC.

Oh, Powell's is Heaven on earth! I was thrilled when they finally opened one up on the west side so I didn't have to fight the traffic. It's not as good as the original but still Powell's. Now that I'm further south at least I can order from the website (which pulls from all locations and the wherehouse...you just can't touch all those wonderful used books).

I actually didn't mind PGE park since my son got to practice soccer there and it was right on the lightrail. He played for FC Portland and before Clive Charles died he was one of the coaches of the Timbers (amazing man, he was active up until the end). It was really nice not to have to drive those 3 days a week.

It's cool the Church of Elvis reopened...kind of a fun place and less moonbatty than some. I do miss the area though. Mind you, I wouldn't want to give up where I'm at (Douglas County actually has more normal people...excusing most of the liberal arts teachers at UCC).
