FRANK, it has been years since the Idea that it the clothes that make the man was heard.
For 30 years I have yet to see more then a handfull of woman wear a hat to church, or a man remove his hat, some wear ball caps and keep them on their head at service, weddings and funerals.
Somewhere in the late 1960's the churches were so desperate for a flock they relaxed traditions to gather in people with no sense of tradition or pride. Their idea of Sunday Best was to wear shoes.
Where did personal or professional pride go to? Face it Frank, had that woman dressed for respect she would be wearing a woman's business suite.
The protesters who wear Tee shirts and jeans with holes in them, come as they are, most of them could not get into a 1 star restaurant dressed as vagabonds.
Appearance is a big deal for those that wish to represent the public, sell cars or realistate. Few people, woman that expect respect head out of the house wearing their night gown, as she appears to be doing.
Politics is a game of selling your ideas to others, convincing others to convert to their ideas. The only man I know of that goes out in public expecting respect wearing a bath robe is Hue Hefner.
Somewhere the idea of showing respect for others in public by dressing to impress went out to a attitude that " I have no interest in being presentable, face, hair or clothing clean. If one is to criticize me because I give a damn what impression I make on you, you are a bigot.
I do not expect the men who pump out my septic tank to be wearing suits and ties, but if they come to Church wearing their filthy work clothes and sit next to me, I will move as far to the back of the Church as I can.

This all comes from loss of respect of others, loss of respect for self.
