Animals out in the heat. How hot is too hot? I live in Arizona.

Edited on Sun May-04-08 07:40 PM by goldcanyonaz
I live in Arizona and the neighbors have a crate outside for their dogs. Today was only 80, which is cool compared to those who live in the Mid West, perhaps 70 is easier to comprehend. I am thinking once it hits 90 here, that I should call animal control. My husband tells me to mind my own business to which I told him **** YOU!! What is you opinion? Not your opinion as to kick my husband in the nuts, cuz I already did that.

35. What does "neighbors have a crate outside for their dogs." mean? Are they locked in or not?

Having a create does not mean the same thing as locking a dog in a crate
with no water in full sun.

45. If they were running loose the cops would come. Why won't you answer simple questions?

Okay and on and on it goes, it turns out it's an 8x8 foot "crate."  And she refuses to even talk to her neighbors:

47. Have you considered talking to your neighbors?

Then you won't have to worry for months about something that might not take place, that you can't control.

52. That never works. Neighbors normally hate intervention unless by the police.

Then someone who lives near the OP pipes in

63. Not sure where in Gold Canyon you are, but I have a lot of friends there --

some in MountainBrook, some in Peralta Trails. Some down at the end of Kings Ranch Road, some just off on Don Donnelly. Some in Montesa.

Some of them have dogs, and I can assure you that ANY of them would be gratified to know that someone was concerned about their animals.

My neighbor has two black labs that are outside 24/7, never come in the house. They have plenty of room -- about 3/4 acre, not a small "crate" -- but they do quite well through the summer, as do the horses and chickens they share the space with.

You might try talking to your neighbors about something other than the dogs. Get to know them first, THEN comment on the dogs. There are ways of doing it without coming across like a vigilante.

there is evidence of abuse.

What you've said so far is insufficient evidence. If the dogs have shade, water, and are not abused, animal control will do NOTHING.

71. You're getting irrational.

Yes, I know "this" is Arizona. Have you not read what I've written? I live here, too, and I know how animal control works here. If you don't have evidence of abuse, nothing will happen. And if you attempt to take the dogs yourself, you'll be liable for prosecution for theft.

You haven't answered any of the pertinent questions asked of you. I've told you that I live here, too, probably not more than a few miles from you. I've lived in Arizona for almost 25 years, and I've had dogs all the time I've lived here.

I've also been on DU long enough to know that it's bad form to accuse other posters of telling untruths, but in the absence of answers from you regarding the details of this "case," I have come to the conclusion that you either don't know what you're talking about or you're making things up. I offered specific remedies including the names of real individuals and organizations you can contact to find out if the dogs in question are being mistreated, and you prefer to scream "I'M CALLING ANIMAL CONTROL!" That's not the rational behavior of a concerned individual; it's the irrational ranting of a child.

Therefore, I'm outta here. I tried to help, and I got abuse from the person I tried to help, and I don't stick around for very much of that.

If anyone else wants to verify the information I've given, you can reach Marta Saint-James at www.goldcanyondog.org . Companion Pet Clinic is at 5331 S Superstition Mtn Dr (Basha's center) #102, Gold Canyon, AZ 85218 (480) 671-1403. I can't vouch for what cards or posters may be on the bulletin board at Gecko Espresso on any given day, but there are a lot of animal-welfare groups in the area and a lot of animal lovers at the Gecko. It cracks me up though.  Why not chat with your neighbors before you piss them off by calling animal control?  Oh no, that's unacceptable.  LOL

I can't imagine living next to someone like that.  Hey ask your neighbors, see what they say.  See if the dogs have shade, food, water, which many people asked her and she never replied.  Are they long haired or short haired?  For all she knows, when it gets above 100 the dogs stay inside.

It's okay for liberals to meddle in the personal lives of their neighbors, but if the government does it, they're "violating their civil rights".

25. at the first sign your neighbors are awake in the morning

you should march over there and demand they give you information.

1) Why do they have the dogs?
2) What do they feed the dogs?
3) Do they let the dogs sleep on their bed?
4) Do they ever give them doggy 'snacks'?

If they fail to provide acceptable answers call the police and lay down in front of their car to prevent them from leaving.

Be adamant.
It's for the benefit of the animals.

38. you should check their garbage bins first
do your best to find out what they're feeding them.

It might take rummaging through their bins a few times but it'll be worth it.
Even if you don't find out exactly what the dogs are being fed you should tell animal control (or the police) that you went through their garbage to try to find out.

That way they'll know how serious you are and will give your complaint the attention it deserves.
