Gap around garage door

I had a new garage door installed several months ago. I notice on extremely windy days, I can see daylight around the sides of the door when I step into the garage. Is this an installation problem and/or is there someway I can insulate the gaps?

1. Is the gap between the door and the (presumably new) door stops?

If that's the case, I'd call it an installation problem.

2. You didn't specify what sort of home this is

Generally a garage door needs a fairly open track to move freely. My last place was a townhouse with attached garage. I had the same problem as you. It was irritating because I used the garage as a workshop. My solution was to install foam rubber seals around the tracks. Most hardware stores stock different sizes with adhesive backing that only take a few minutes to put up. The stuff is sold as doorway or window seals. The stuff I used was about 1/4" thick and 2" wide. Worked pretty well. I used a little piezo heater during the winter and that $20 cut down the heater operation by half.

A lot of it has to do with the weight of the door.  I have a commercial grade insulated garage door that weighs a few hundred pounds.  I don't care how windy it gets, that thing doesn't budge.  I would have to say a door that weighed less would be more susceptible to greater movement by windy conditions.

If that's the case, then some type of skirting around the edges of the door would probably reduce exposure.

WTF is the cost to install a garage door.    If you buy a home with a problem, that is your problem to fix.

If You buy yourself this door, then it is faulty you should not have to pay one cent out of pocket to fix the problem.  Homeowners insurance may not cover an appliance if you DIY try to fix in case there is more wrong then you think.

Tricky here, keep all communications with the door installer, if they refuse to honor some kind of guarantee, they try to fix the problem and cannot, insist on a brand new door.--------If there are other problems you are unaware of and the door falls on someone due to the problems, at the very least you cannot be sued for negligence.

Jeez, on rainy/snowing and windy days, I get some seepage under the door.  Not a lot, mind you, but a little.

DUmmies--garage doors DO have adjustments on them.  Also, you can buy insulating strips/bumpers for the doors themselves.

Now I'll just sit back and listen to you blame the Rethuglican/KKK/fundies for installing your door incorrectly.

Get this.

There's currently a campfire in the cooking and baking forum where a primitive inquires how one should get rid of egg shells.

That's easy......you run them through the garbage disposal......they clean the blades, and keep it running properly.

Well, believe it or not, no primitive's thought of that yet.

They're really simple-minded about garbage disposal.

They're really simple-minded about garbage disposal.

In that regard, so am I, particularly when one has a septic system.

Septic tanks and leach fields don't much care for food waste, especially in the amounts generated by a garbage disposal.
