An unfortunate fact about taxing the hell out of the rich

Taxing the Rich won't do a thing to slow down, let alone stop, predatory activities by Corporations of every sort as they go about their day to day business unfettered by recently jettisoned regulation. Just because the President of the local Gas and Oil company gets the living bejezuz taxed out of him doesn't mean his corporation won't strip mine your back yard and destroy your watershed now that they're legally able to do so.

Just taxing the rich doesn't do a thing to stop the desecration of America, at best its just a way to pay for fixing just some small bit of the damage that has already been done. Every interface between the public and privately held interests in this country there need to be examined and where there is harm to be felt by their interaction of the two it must never be allowed for that harm fall to the people. God dam it, that's the very least we can expect, that they 'first, do no harm".

That's why you don't stop at merely taxing them into poverty, you regulate the hell out of them so their businesses go under too. I figured you commies would know that.  :whatever:

5. True, but with all that tax revenue we can set up a regulatory agency with some teeth and

a bad attitude.

Because there must be no regulations now, right?  :mental:

6. 3 percent more

isn't taxing the hell out of the rich.

Like 3% will satisfy you goons. They will do it in increments, an extra 3% here then another 3% there until you reach 99%.

9. I agree - it is only a bandaid and a small one at that.

We really need to get rid of capitalism.

Communism all the way.  :whatever:

13. Unfortunately, you are absolutely correct.

And here is another thing...they will STILL be filthy ****ing rich!

It's not often that they actually come out and admit the goal is to make it so no one is rich anymore, well not often outside of DU anyway, because the commies don't want everyone to know their plans.

18. If you hitch your financial wagon to a small group of rich people

what should be done to ensure there are enough rich people to tax? That's the irony of tax the rich - you become even more dependent on people that you despise and mistrust.

How profound, if you tax the rich into poverty then you have no one to tax anymore. Has to be a freeper troll.

19. Hey.. It's a start. . Consider it start-up money to beef up the regulators. . . n/t

Yep that is totally fair, take their money then use that same money to run their businesses into the ground.  :banghead:

The more I read, the more scared I get of what's happening in this country. One of my very best friends has a younger sister that is constantly trying to challenge me and my views at the most inappropriate times. My usual response is, "This isn't the time or the place." A couple of weeks ago they 'liked' Walmart on Facebook. I think they were trying to get $100 gift cards or something. I never click on that stuff.

Anyway, I commented on it with a snide remark about how hypocritical she was for liking big business when there was a tiny chance of it benefiting her family. She deleted the 'like' and completely ignored my comment that was deleted along with it. I now wonder what I will be in store for when Christmas night comes and I head over to her house for our traditional game night.

I guess I should start preparing for her and her husband's attempts at convincing me I'm the idiot.

I drink.  A lot.  :cheersmate:

She was born when I was 12 years old. Before she decided what her views were she asked me lots of questions. We talked quite a bit and I offered her a few books to read. She chose to read the news instead. She gets upset because I won't discuss hot issues with her. It's snobbish, but I don't believe she is informed enough to have a discussion with me that isn't emotional and immature. Her feelings would surely get hurt. She truly believes that the rich have too much and they should be forced to share. I'm not rich and disagree with that sentiment, therefore, I'm an idiot.

As she's gotten older and more confident in her own views, she now thinks I won't discuss it because I can't explain why my views are what they are. The implication is that I'm too dumb and uninformed to be as enlightened as she is. I wouldn't be surprised if she's a poster at DU. If she is, I will certainly find out now, especially if she reads here.

I enjoy my time with her and her husband as long as politics aren't brought into the discussion. The last two times we got together they were brought up. Her drunk husband actually told me I'd be the perfect woman, if only I weren't a conservative. :lmao: As if I'd ever want to be with someone who's constantly looking for a handout (a lib).

I will never be able to change her. I guess now I just enjoy being who I am because I know it drives them crazy. I envision them frothing at the mouth to have me get into it with them. I find it entertaining to bring them right to the edge and then stop myself as if I don't want to offend anyone or as if I've realized it's an inappropriate time. I figure, with most people anyway, that won't work for very long, but with them it's worked for well-over ten years.

The truly rich can easily evade your stupid schemes, my silly little DUmmies; the people who get destroyed by them are the merely wealthy, middle class, and skilled workers.

More taxes, more regulations...and more jobs move overseas.  The only ones that will get hurt if the DUmmies get their wishes are all the smaller businesses that compete with the corporations the DUmmies hate.  Eventually, the heavy hand of government and leftist greed will drive this country to the point that all wealth is held by either huge, multinational corporations or the government.  There will be nothing left for 'the little guy.'

They want the government to control everything and keep their environment pristine....I guess they never saw what an ecological disaster those communist countries are/were.

As if the DUmmies have found the right people for the job here.

They can start with the OWS encampments, and any other fist-in-the-air event they have.

Just ask the politicians in Sacramento, Albany, Springfield, Boston, Annapolis, and Trenton how well taxing the shit out of the "rich" has been working of late.

This is what happens:
http://blog.heritage.org/2011/08/24/illinois-loses-most-jobs-in-nation-following-massive-tax-increase/

The jobs flee. Tax hikes aimed at the higher income achievers means more pain for the bottom and lower classes.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Yup--1/3 the millionaires in MD are gone.  CA is holding on by the barest of threads.  Boston thinks opening a shitload of casinos will solve their problems, but nobody bothered to ask how it's been working for Atlantic City, Vegas, etc., of late (hint: Foxwoods is on the verge of bankruptcy.)
