D.U. Most Memorable Moments, Posters of Renown???
Edited on Mon Nov-28-11 01:21 AM by unionworks
Doing my homework, I noticed that D.U. was founded the day Bush was sworn in. In the short time I have been here, I have found coverage of events far more insightful than I ccould get in the M$M. First hand accounts of what really happened at the Occupy camps, the Bin Laden hit, and the Scott Walker saga come to mind. Anyone care to share some of their best moments on D.U.? Perhaps great stories of unforgettable posters, or funny stories? I have heard a few so far, and it gave me an appetite for more. Beer and travel money to you all.

4. How the Republicans stole the election was one of the most important
stories covered by several posters, some of whom have since been tombstoned here for reasons I've never understood. But they brought us truth about what really happened, and how easy it is to rig electronic voting machines.

Other major stories where we got the truth first here included Hurricane Katrina, the Fukushima meltdown, and more.

Personally, I got inspired from posts here to get involved in the media reform movement, after realizing how biased the corporate-owned media has become, failing even to report on blatant election theft.I attended the National Media Reform Conference in Memphis and wound up writing for a national alternative news site. Later I started a nonprofit media outlet that actually became mainstream.

It was through DU that I learned about reliable news sources such as Truthout, Rawstory, Bradblog, Democracy Now, Buzzflash, Huffington Post, and others I'd never have heard of otherwise.

The cork's still in the champagne. (Actually, it's screw-top Ripple. DUmmies save their cash for weed.)

A huge thread, and none of them mentioned one of my favorites, reports by DUmmy lonestarnot about corpses dangling from trees in Galveston after a hurricane with zero fatalities.

So this thread is already here - actually, it could help on the REAL list. Id ruled Peggy out this year until I saw this brag:

81. A DUzy is an award. They were done (usually weekly) by JeffR.
Edited on Mon Nov-28-11 11:44 AM by CaliforniaPeggy
He would comb through the forums, and people would PM him links, to anything funny, witty, off the wall, every week.

And then he would put them all together in a huge thread on Friday afternoons. He would credit whoever had done the funny post, and where.

It was a LOT of work.

I even won a couple...

I miss him.

Now you know. I saved some and I'll see if I can find them...

On edit, here's a pretty good example:

OP by TreasonousBastard:

Yo! Mods!
Eleven months to go. You gonna hold up?

response #1 by CaliforniaPeggy:

I believe that a mod term is 3 or 4 months long...
So we'll have several sets of them during this time...

Yeah, they'll hold up.

They have to.

Oh, this is delicious! A trip down memory lane! BlackBoxBev, Andy, Fitzmas. Good times.

I especially enjoyed these digs at Mr. Pitt:

One of my favorites as well.
The hopeless drunkard Pitt has political insights not available to run-of-the-mill DUmbasses:

47. I'm in downtown Boston
and have been swimming in this race long before 90% of the DU punditry even knew it was happening. I'm actually getting a kick out of all the high-flown opinionating going on around here, because maybe 1% of the opinions evince any knowledge whatsoever about on-the-ground Massachusetts politics. This race is turning on a lot of MA factors unique to the state. It's not a grand statement on anything other than the vagaries of local politics.

The 60-40 thing was an answer to the question about how good I am at predictions. I'm right more often than wrong, but am wrong enough to make me a shaky bet.
