Poll question: How common do you honestly think it is for paid operatives to post on progressive forums?

I have heard this charge made numberous times and I believe there is a thread right now relating to a BBC article on this subject. I'm curious how much people do think that there are a significant number of paid operatives or even right-wing trolls at work.

I think it happens - but it is actually pretty rare.   (9 votes, 13%)
   
I think there are regular paid paid operatives at work on a daily basis - but they rarely have a significant impact on the direction of discussion   (4 votes, 6%)
   
I think there are several paid operatives at work on this and other progressive forums all the time altering and shaping the direction of discussion   (14 votes, 21%)
   
I think there are a lot of right-wing trolls - some paid - some doing it for free - who post on this and other progressive forums all the time and they are causing serious damage   (31 votes, 46%)
   
I have no idea and I am not going to worry about it   (9 votes, 13%)

Its been increasing in frequency since the all those cities happened to suddenly... all at the same time.... tried to close them down.

'FORUM SLIDING'
If a very sensitive posting of a critical nature has been posted on a forum - it can be quickly removed from public view by 'forum sliding.' In this technique a number of unrelated posts are quietly prepositioned on the forum and allowed to 'age.'

TOPIC DILUTION'
Topic dilution is not only effective in forum sliding it is also very useful in keeping the forum readers on unrelated and non-productive issues.

'INFORMATION COLLECTION'
Information collection is also a very effective method to determine the psychological level of the forum members, and to gather intelligence that can be used against them. In this technique in a light and positive environment a 'show you mine so me yours' posting is initiated. From the number of replies and the answers that are provided much statistical information can be gathered.

'ANGER TROLLING'
Statistically, there is always a percentage of the forum posters who are more inclined to violence. In order to determine who these individuals are, it is a requirement to present a image to the forum to deliberately incite a strong psychological reaction. From this the most violent in the group can be effectively singled out for reverse IP location and possibly local enforcement tracking. To accomplish this only requires posting a link to a video depicting a local police officer massively abusing his power against a very innocent individual. Statistically of the million or so police officers in America there is always one or two being caught abusing there powers and the taping of the activity can be then used for intelligence gathering purposes - without the requirement to 'stage' a fake abuse video. This method is extremely effective, and the more so the more abusive the video can be made to look. Sometimes it is useful to 'lead' the forum by replying to your own posting with your own statement of violent intent, and that you 'do not care what the authorities think!!' inflammation. By doing this and showing no fear it may be more effective in getting the more silent and self-disciplined violent intent members of the forum to slip and post their real intentions. This can be used later in a court of law during prosecution.

GAINING FULL CONTROL'
It is important to also be harvesting and continually maneuvering for a forum moderator position. Once this position is obtained, the forum can then be effectively and quietly controlled by deleting unfavourable postings - and one can eventually steer the forum into complete failure and lack of interest by the general public. This is the 'ultimate victory' as the forum is no longer participated with by the general public and no longer useful in maintaining their freedoms. Depending on the level of control you can obtain, you can deliberately steer a forum into defeat by censoring postings, deleting memberships, flooding, and or accidentally taking the forum offline. By this method the forum can be quickly killed. However it is not always in the interest to kill a forum as it can be converted into a 'honey pot' gathering center to collect and misdirect newcomers and from this point be completely used for your control for your agenda purposes."

I have seen many good people kicked off of this website, and yet many many trolls remain, using many of these very obvious tactics.



For instance, if the topic cannot be discredited, trolls will attempt to provoke a personal attack, cause a big fight and get the whole thread locked, sometimes deleted.

And who hasn't seen how quickly important topics about 9/11 are moved to the dungeon?

Bingo.  All my moles work pro bono although I have heard of others who  are just doing it to fulfill community service sentencing. :whistling: 

One of my moles recently was featured on another board.  :hyper:  I was so proud and humbled, of course it is hard when you cannot accept accolades, such is the life of an unpaid mole.

Anyone who disagrees is a paid mole because obviously I'm so correct in my thinking it would be statistically improbable that 99.999% of the population disagrees with me, ergo they're paid.

I work for the Koch brothers, and I make $40K a year moling on DU and other sites.

Its a fun, work at home type of job. I work my regular job at a bank and come home ready to mess with liberals.

Just send your resume to evil.conservatives.rule.the.world@kochcontrol.com...They provide everything. Plug in, operate from any of a 1000 ISPs, and never pay the consequences.

The site of self professed free and independent thinkers is suspicious of people who do think like they do.
