NEWARK -- A former official with an ironworkers union based in Jersey City accepted more than $14,000 in bribes to get non-union workers jobs at a union construction site in Hudson County, authorities said today.

James J. Kearney Sr., 75, of Belleville, former business manager and an employee of Local 45 of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers, was charged with soliciting and accepting bribes, the U.S. Attorney's Office for New Jersey said.

Kearney, who faces up to five years in prison and a $500,000 fine, made his first court appearance in Newark this afternoon.

I am just so glad we have unions in our lives. Without them, those big bad corporations would be ruling THE WORLD!

Finished that for you.

Hard to imagine that there truly WAS a time when unions were necessary to curb the abuses of management.  That was what, about 80 years ago?

No one has mentioned that this Union man's son embezzled $560,000 from the union funds.

Peanuts, nothing much to complain about, look at all the good they did for the workers. They should have paid them more...blah-blah-blah [DU/mode].

A New Jersey union official prosecuted for taking bribes?  It is to laugh.  The only reason this dumbshit is getting prosecuted is because he was cutting the union's throat on dues, taking bribes to get non-union workers on the jobsite.  If he'd been forcing employers to put phantom employees on the payroll so the mob could collect the salaries and the union could collect the dues, he wouldn't have a care in the world.
