Have you noticed that jars of cherry jelly have disappeared from the store shelves?

Still see cherry preserves or jam which I can't stand but no cherry jelly.

I called Smuckers and asked them why? They didn't really have a good reason for not selling jars of it anymore but they did point me toward their website where it can be ordered in individual servings packages by the case only. Expensive too. But no more jars of cherry jelly.

Anyone else notice this or have any idea why? I always figured that was about their biggest seller? It was the only kind I bought.

What happened?

You know, Don can take it easy now, relax.

He's going to get nominated; it's in the bag, I guarantee it.

So he doesn't have to keep campaigning so hard.

He can relax and enjoy Thanksgiving.

Maybe the cherry crop was bad this year. You might want to check out your local dollar store or Aldi. They often have imported cherry preserves, which are usually quite good. That Cost Plus (?) chain that has all the international products would be another place to check, if you have one nearby.

2. I use the imported French Bonne Maman brand of cherry preserves

It's available right at my usual market. I haven't bought any in a few weeks, but they had plenty back then.

Did you ever stop to think that cherry jelly isn't a popular flavor, and it was discontinued because it was a financial loser ?

Anyway - there are many small operations that continue to produce cherry jelly, and package it in mason jars with recycled paper labels, tied up with dried corn husk bows --so it will sell to snobs for thrice its value.

Never really thought about it but i have a feeling grape is the most popular.  Cherry does sound like it would be pretty good tho.

That's a particular hypocrisy of the cooking and baking primitives I've never been able to understand.

I don't care if decent and civilized people have extravagant luxurious tastes, because decent and civilized people don't wear their virtue (or "virtue") on their sleeve.

But the primitives make a career out of being socially conscious, socially sensitive, caring people.  They care for those in need; we ostensibly don't.

If the primitives really cared, they'd dine upon only simple fare, so those who have less could have some more.

Many years ago when I was a child in elementary school, my mother decided to make some hot pepper jelly. I don't know why she decided on hot pepper jelly. We had a small area that we farmed so maybe we had produced more hot peppers than we could otherwise use.

When she first made her jelly plans known I thought she had lost her mind. If an asylum like DU existed back then I would have immediately signed her up. All the family made fun of her, but it never phased her. She'd made the decision and intended to make the jelly regardless of our opinion.

If I remember correctly during that time she also made strawberry jelly and either blackberry or grape (wild grapes) jelly. All of it was good, but everyone always wanted more of the much laughed at hot pepper jelly. I'll still joke around with momma and even occasionally make fun of her at times, but not about jelly.

I have no doubt that she could make some excellent cherry jelly. I just don't know if she would be willing to make some for a DUmp denizen. She's got principles.

Yes, but he's eating the fancy preserves on a biodegradeable paper plate that he will be attempting to recycle.

Some homeless dude wandered into the store I was in earlier today asking if they had any empty cans.  I wish we had one of those in my neighborhood.  I would love curbside service... I could keep him stocked in beer cans from here to eternity.

Maybe even save him a few swigs per can.  That was my "pay" as a kid getting Dad a beer out of the fridge-I'd be so considerate as to uncap it for him AND taste test it. O-)

I would definitely "pay" for such service.  A couple cans is a pittance compared with dragging all this mess to the dupmster.

The only time Dad ever drank beer was at the ball game.  I didn't care for it at the time.
