************COLLEGE FOOTBALL: WEEK 12************

Texas Tech is banished from the College Football Pool. Can a team quit anymore than this? What? They've been outscored the last three weeks by, like, 220-27.

God forbid, they get a Bowl bid. A big congrats to Lazarus for a 10-4 week. Outstanding. A very tough week. A shout out to happy for another strong week.

9-5.Brendan takes over the overall lead with a one game edge over Era. Still plenty of time for someone to make an authoritative move up the charts. Thursday game, so in before kick. Thanks for playing, as always.

Thursday, November 17
North Carolina +13 @ Virginia Tech

Saturday, November 19
Oklahoma State -27 @ Iowa State
Nebraska +3 @ Michigan
Wisconsin -13.5 @ Illinois
Kentucky +29.5 @ Georgia
Clemson -10 @ North Carolina State
Penn State +5.5 @ Ohio State
SMU +20.5 @ Houston
Mississippi State +13.5 @ Arkansas
Vanderbilt -1 @ Tennessee
LSU -30 @ Ol' Miss
Oklahoma -13 @ Baylor
Kansas State +7.5 @ Texas
USC +16.5 @ Oregon
Cal +20.5 @ Stanford

Good ****ing luck!!

You know, the condom primitive seems to have that one nervous disorder, some sort of syndrome that starts with a "T," a French-sounding name.  I forget what it is, but the sensitive piano-playing lad, the "goodboy" primitive, has the same nervous habit.

Can't write a sentence without including an ancient word for hopping around in the sack.

And as the condom primitive's about 50 years old--but still in college (University of Iowa), trying to defer paying off all those student loans--and so should've been cured of that disorder a long time ago.

Anyway.

franksolich is currently 2-2-1 against the primitives.

franksolich picks, and not in a fit of insanity, Southern California to defeat Oregon.

One has to know more about college football than what the talking faces on television say, or what the "line" is.

There's a whole lot of intangibles, unmeasureables, in college football, and one has to consider those.

Southern California to defeat Oregon; you heard it here first.

Anyway, so the primitives made their picks, most of them picking the one the talking faces on television and the bookies say is going to win.

Some primitive news at this campfire:

2. I get to leave for Thanksgiving break on Saturday, very exciting for me. I haven't seen my sister and nephews since July. Should be a fun week.

6. Jeez, I wish.

Nope, I get to spend this coming weekend is good ol' Scranton, PA and Thanksgiving at my mom's in NJ. I'm hoping Mexico is in the cards for the New Year, but unless I end up with a permanent job, I'm skeptical.

I'm not Mexican, I just study Latin America for a living and all of my research is there, so I'm back and forth frequently. My mom's family is Mediterranean and my Dad's from the Emerald Isle.

13. I need to study more of Latin America

I am a Zoner and really want to go back and visit. Wondering about dual citizenship down there.

We are an outcast minority, screwed by the Great Coca-Cola Republic of the north.

7. Re: Tommy T @ Auburn

The answer from the Auburn Family is a resounding "no" to having him back at the helm. He's a good coach, and every few years will guide the team to better than expected success (see Auburn 2004); CTT runs a clean program, and will pull a major upset out of his bag of tricks at least once a year. The problem with CTT is that he also loses one or more games each year that his team is "not supposed to lose." CTT's recruiting really fell off the cliff his last few years at AU - without sustained recruiting each year, Auburn's program was in a big tail slide when CTT "resigned."

14. Enjoy doing it, era.

BTW, just got my Iowa B-ball ticket package. We're on our way back from many lean years. All started by the ****in' asshole, Steve Alford.

24. So first my "sob story" - we had a Reduction-in-Force at work last Friday (11-11-11) and I was one of the unlucky ones who got the axe. Amazingly - I wasn't really that upset about it. I was starting to look for a new job because that one was starting to become unfun. So now instead of resigning, I get six weeks of severance, two weeks of vacation pay-out, and I am eligible for unemployment while I race to find a new job.

Ummm.  The Magic One struck again.

I thought this wasn't going to happen after January 20, 2009.

The primitives promised us it wouldn't.

Anyway.

Nebraska plays Michigan at Michigan this weekend.

Michigan's got a pretty good team, and it's great, having our annual game with sore losers, sore winners, over and done with, and we're back to playing with class teams, class fans.

Uh oh.

I was suddenly reminded of something, regarding the Nebraska-Michigan game.

Quote
The most famous game between the two storied programs is the one that was never played: between the 1997 co-national champions. We don't need to drag that debate out again, do we? We've all moved on, right?

Right?

I thought so.

Quote
Put it this way: If you're going to the Big House on Saturday, and you want to make new friends, don't wear a "1997 National Champions" T-shirt.

"They care more about it than we know," said Matt Hickey, a wealth advisor for the SilverStone Group in Omaha, and a college roommate of former Husker and current Detroit Lion Dominic Raiola. Since Raiola joined the Lions in 2001, Hickey has made annual trips to Michigan to see the Lions, hanging out with Michigan sports fans.

"Ever since Nebraska joined the Big Ten, the Michigan fans have referenced (1997)," Hickey said. "They talk about it way more than we talk about it. To be honest, they feel they were the deserving champions. They think we took half of it because of PR and a gift to Coach Osborne."

Oh man.

They have to "get over it," because Nebraska was the superior team.

Being number two's not bad; it means one's ahead of about 185 other teams.

Quote
"I expect it to be a good rivalry," Hickey said. "When I went to a game there last year, their fans were already talking about how excited they were to have Nebraska in the Big Ten. There's a lot in common. They hold their football gods, like Bo Schembechler, in high regard, like we do Tom Osborne. It's a very blue-collar, hard-working state, and football plays an important role in their society.

"The games there are definitely not as crazy as Wisconsin. Nebraska fans won't find that kind of reception. It's closer to Memorial Stadium. The fans are knowledgeable and huge into tradition. They think of themselves as the upper crust of the Big Ten."

Quote
These two meet on Saturday without a lot of history to draw from.

There have been six meetings. Michigan beat NU at home 31-0 in 1905 and 20-0 in 1917, back when the masking tape was on leather helmets. There was a 6-6 tie in the lone meeting in Lincoln, 100 years ago.

On Sept. 29, 1962, the last time Nebraska played in the Big House, quarterback Dennis Claridge and Bill "Thunder" Thornton led the Huskers to a 25-13 victory. It was coach Bob Devaney's second game at Nebraska. It was a signature win that jump-started the Devaney Era.

Then there was the 1986 Fiesta Bowl, the only time Bo Schembechler and Tom Osborne faced each other. Quarterback Jim Harbaugh led the Wolverines to a 27-23 win. Freshman Steve Taylor replaced McCathorn Clayton late in the game and nearly led a Husker comeback.

And who could forget the 2005 Alamo Bowl, with Zac Taylor shredding Michigan's defense late, and the crazy "Cal-Stanford" play by the Wolverines as time ran out? Bill Callahan got his only bowl win at NU. I'm sure you forgot that part.

Yeah, we here in Nebraska forgot Callahan and his boss Steve Pedersen a long time ago.

It was bad, really bad, when they were in the driver's seat.

It could not happen to a better group of jerks. And Craig James's whiny, crybaby, sissy son is having such a great senior season!

Somehow, I'm not surprise that ESPN hasn't mentioned how Craig James has now destroyed the football programs at TWO Texas universities.

And somewhere, Mike Leach is laughing his ass off.
