A 35-year-old man shot and gravely wounded himself Thursday in an Occupy Wall Street encampment in Vermont's largest city, witnesses said.

The public was not believed to be at risk after the afternoon shooting at City Hall Park in Burlington, but the circumstances were still being investigated, said Burlington Police Deputy Chief Andi Higbee.

The shooting followed the Wednesday night arrest of dozens of protesters at the University of California, Berkeley campus, and as officials in Portland, Oregon, said an encampment in their city will be shut early Sunday.

The Vermont victim's identity will not be released until his family has been notified, Higbee said.

They're starting to drop like flies. 

For whatever reason, this morning I became overwhelmingly irritated by these filthy bums.  How is it, that a state Health Department can hound and fine and pester every restaurant in town for a stray crumb on the floor, but these vermin can spread lice, TB, and raw sewage all over the place unchecked?  Don't the citizens of the occupied cities deserve a minimum standard of hygiene as their equally protected right under the law?  WTF?

They seem to be pretty quick on the trigger to cite unmowed grass or any other deviation from prettiness for 'Maintaining a public nuisance' or similar charges, if these scumballs aren't a public nuisance I don't know what one is.
