Tuberculosis outbreak at 'Occupy Atlanta'

Tuberculosis Breaks Out At Occupy Atlanta’s Base

The home base for Occupy Atlanta has tested positive for tuberculosis.

The Fulton County Health Department confirmed Wednesday that residents at the homeless shelter where protesters have been occupying have contracted the drug-resistant disease. WGCL reports that a health department spokeswoman said there is a possibility that both Occupy Atlanta protesters and the homeless people in the shelter may still be at risk since tuberculosis is contracted through air contact.

this is really such an incredible lesson for the American people of what this country would be if the left had it's way. Basically a third world shithole.

I thought placing them in their own sub-forum in Mind Numbing Stupidity would be a good idea (later, not right now).

DRUG RESISTANT TB. That means people are going to DIE.

Protesters Coming Down With the "Zuccotti Lung"

It was these 2 paragraphs than almost had me quitting my jobs and cashing in everything to join them in their winter paradise....

Quote
With little sleep in cold conditions, cigarettes and drinks being passed from mouth to mouth, and few opportunities to wash hands, Zuccotti Park may now just be the best place to catch respiratory viruses, norovirus (also known as the winter vomiting virus) and tuberculosis, according to one doctor.

The damp clothing and cardboard signs wet with rain are also breeding grounds for mold. Some protesters are urinating in bottles and leaving food trash discarded throughout the campground, providing further opportunities for nastiness.

then I thought about it a little more and said, "nah, nevermind"...

Drug Resistant TB has a much higher mortality rate than regular TB, and treatment is more complicated but it is possible to get rid of it in many cases.  It may require removal of the infected part of the lung if it is extremely drug resistant.  Treatment with drugs generally requires following a multiple drug regimen, and we all know how good the occupiers are at being responsible.

Basically, anybody who test positive should go to the doctor ASAP so that they doctors can determine how resistant their TB is and which drugs it is resistant too so that they can start treatment.

Don't forget the fact that TB is contagious as hell, especially in the lush breeding ground the dirty, filthy hippies are providing for the bug.  If they have multiple point sources now, you can probably expect no less than half that encampment to come down with  it, and yeah, if it's as drug resistant as they think it is, they're gonna start dropping like flies.

If I were a cop policing the hippies there, I wouldn't approach the place with anything less than level 4 MOPP, knowing this, and the knowledge that a good, hot, bleach shower was waiting for me at the end of my shift would be most of what would carry me through the day.

Yep, there is a reason that it is more common in the third world than here.  Poor hygiene and cramped living conditions contribute to its spread.  Each person with TB is likely to infect a dozen or so per year with normal contact.  I say we isolate them now to protect the rest of society

Now they have something in common with their illegal alien buddies streaming over the border from Mexico ("No person is illegal.").  Although, I've heard Obama has ****ed up the economy so bad, the Mexicans are going the other direction.

An airborne, highly contagious disease in a major metropolitan area - what could go wrong with that?

My husband has to go downtown occasionally, but insists he's never anywhere near the encampment.  The thing is that someone who has been in or the near the idiots could bring the disease to him where ever he happens to be.

What's the mayor doing about this?  The damn CDC is right there!

The people who live/work around there should buy NIOSH N95 respirators, and then file a class action suit against the OWS movement, naming the "finance people" individually as well, for the cost of the respirators
